The Davis Waldorf School, using a rich and comprehensive curriculum, guides children to develop selfknowledge and to prepare themselves to meet the world by wakening within them critical thought, creativity, warmth of heart, and strength of purpose. September 22, 2006 DWS Update Parking, Adjusted Halloween Planning The traffic circle (at the back of the parking lot) is now available as a dropoff location before 8:20am. In the morning, the front halfcircle driveway is to be used for dropoff only. The left side of the halfcircle will be used for faculty/staff parking. This will free up spaces in the inner lot for parents and also minimize children crossing the entryway just as cars are rushing into the parking lot. After 8:25, parking in the halfcircle is unrestricted — primarily for use by kindergarten and early childhood parents who typically stay on campus longer. It is now also possible to park outside the school on Sycamore Lane on the schoolside of the street. We strongly discourage parking on the freeway side of the street. It is not legal to park on the freeway side of the street, and Sycamore is a dangerous street for children to cross. Although the posted speed limit is 25 mph, cars drive considerably faster than that on this stretch of Sycamore Lane. We are working with the Police and the Department of Public Works on this issue. When parking on the school side of Sycamore, use the graded areas we have created on school property. Be certain you park completely off the road — the Davis Police Department has informed us that even a portion of your tire on the pavement could warrant a ticket. And to further help with our parking situation, our neighbors to the south on Sycamore, the Davis Christian Assembly, have offered to share their back parking lot (on the east side of the church) during school hours. And, it’s always been true, but now with our early childhood programs on campus, it’s truer than ever — Find out what’s in store for our annual Halloween festival’s Protected Path. The special events committee is holding the first planning meeting October 2 at 3:15pm in the first grade classroom and you are invited!
