TMCSC Meeting Minutes 131st Session, 30th Meeting Week 9, Spring Quarter 2015 Thursday, May 28th 2015, 6:30 PM I. II. III. IV. Call to order a. 6:35 Roll Call Approval of the Minutes a. Approved Public Input a. Collin is the Interim Professional for Marshall: a. Trying to rebuild the commuter student board. They had a breakfast event this morning and he wants to talk with the commuter student representative. His email is [email protected] if anyone wants to contact him. b. A.S. President and AVP of Student Affairs. They want to reach out to us and collaborate with us. At the end of the day we are all students so we should work together. AVP of Student Affairs facilitates meetings with college councils to foster cross-collaboration between councils and A.S. a. ASCE: Hullaballoo is 11/13 from 8pm-12am. There will be a perimeter fence around the festival so make sure to bring your ID. They will be scanning IDs starting at 10am to get wristbands so you do not have to wait in line later. The food vendors will be cash only. Also there is no reentry. i. The future for Sun God is still being discussed. The number one argument is that the number of alcohol and drug related incidents is higher than other larger festivals. Administration is worried it is no longer bringing school spirit and is just about partying. While the Sun God festival last year was an improvement, there were still 100 detox incidents and 6 sexual assault cases. They have to create the event in this next week. Email [email protected] with any suggestions or ideas. This year, statistics for risk management have been better. There were no incidents at Fall Y’all, so they are really pushing to have a great Hullaballoo with no incidents so they can understand that we deserve a Sun God this year. 1. STUD Imagination: Do you need volunteers for Hulla Baloo? a. Yes there is a volunteer application at concerts.ucsd.edu 2. SCORE: Who is headlining again? a. Lil Dikky, David Choy, the Young Wild 3. WCSAB: Is there reentry for Hulla Baloo? a. No V. VI. Icebreaker a. Gave out mentee gifts, yay Issue Discussion a. A.S. Constitutional Changes: 1. Thanks for taking the survey! The changes were approved by AS last night so now at least 4/6 college councils need to pass or amend them. The A.S. President would like us to discuss these changes and confirm by Thurs. Nov. 19. 2. Some changes include: Beginning week 5 Winter quarter, there will be two separate AS meetings. There are now 5 all campus senators and 2 First Year Senators and instead there are 2 off campus, 1 international, and 1 domestic out of state. Tara proposed how vetoes can be overturned by senators with ¾ vote. Even though the senate can override a veto, the financial controller would have veto power because they oversee so much money and it would make it ¾ people instead of 2/3. We do not have to make a decision tonight. Also all campus senators would term in week 8. i. International Rep: The number of international senators should increase because it is impossible for one person to represent every international region. a. Senator Zhong: We would have to take away another representative if we wanted to add another International Rep. ii. Food Pantry: The current amount of international senators is good because it represents the same percent of the student population. Also can you elaborate on why they are terming in week 8? a. Terming in week 8, the AVPs would have time to hire a staff and prepare for the upcoming year. iii. Senator Vahdani: If anyone wants to write language for any changes they want to make, please do so. iv. STUD S&C: Are there more off campus students versus on campus? Or how do the numbers of senators represent the student population on campus? a. The off campus senators represent off campus and commuter representatives that are focused on finding and advocating affordable housing for students. b. Chair: They are not trying to represent the whole student body but just to focus on certain issues. v. Senator Zhong: Please try really hard to come up with questions so we can discuss everything before voting next week. vi. VC Finance: Would it be possible to show the actual document? a. It was sent out in emails but it would be long and hard to show on the screen vii. SFAC: We should probably go through the actual document to look for any errors and it will be a great educational experience for us. VII. VII. IX. Business a. Finance 1. The funding request form is posted in the Facebook group. Please fill out the doodle for finance committee meeting. It will most likely be at 8pm when most people can make it, but the date is TBD. He will post Sunday night when the meeting for next week will be. i. Dir. of Administration: Do you all want me to send out the list of committees? 1. Yes b. Internal 1. None. c. External 1. This is her first meeting as VCE! Happy Thoughts Reports a. Director of Programming 1. none b. Director of Public Relations 1. Her plan was to release the website was this quarter, but it will now probably be winter quarter. c. Director of Administration 1. Congrats to all eight people for reading the minutes! I was so proud that I bought candy for you all! i. Shout out to Gary for actually finding mistakes! 2. Let me know if you would like a new name tag by Sunday night. Right now I only know of Gary and Derrick. 3. Please fill out the google doc I will post on Facebook with your favorite candies! 4. Please look up my email when you want to inform me of an absence. Facebook messaging just takes longer because I still need you to email me for the records. d. Senators 1. Senator Vahdani: Upcoming events are the million student march on Thurs. Nov. 4th at 4:30pm to extend the $15 per week minimum wage to students, Hulla Baloo, Food and Housing insecurity for public input Nov. 16th, Thrifty Thurs on Nov. 19th i. They had their first meeting with their staff today. Marshall Gives Back had 40 people show up and it went really well. They are having office hours next week Tues. from 12:30-1:30 on Marshall Field 1. JBoard: What are some things you discuss in office hours? a. We asked them questions about OVT or back funding and they got chocolate for answering the questions. 2. Senator Zhong: HDH Analyst came in. He said they are looking into a 24 hour dining facility but the student staff is a problem. High food prices was mentioned as a problem. It is harder for UCSD to get prices lower because we are not a huge food company. 30 cents of every dining dollars goes into IT and operational costs so that is why prices are higher. Someone asked about hydration stations and he recommended making a maintenance request. Marshall’s dining facility will have pizza like Regents Pizza where you can see the worker making the dough. There will be an open market as well. They shifted the entire frame for student workers in dining halls starting at $10.15. Now students can only get food during their shift and do not get leads. i. Food Pantry: Would the market or the pizza oven effect the business at Foodworx or Goody’s market? 1. It does not matter because all HDH money goes to the same place in the end. ii. ASCE: Would the pizza and refrigerated items be the only food in the dining hall? Also she feels student workers would be willing to work late or 24 hours. 1. They are also thinking of having culture cuisine and have talked about connecting OVT with OVL. iii. Food Pantry: Why were they talking about hammocks in the naming survey? 1. SCORE: They are giving out hammocks so people can use the hammock poles just put in front of J building. iv. Senator Vahdani: Let us know if you want to join in on our office hours. v. Senator Zhong: Thanks for responding to the Facebook pole. There was an incident at UC Merced where a student was kicked out of a study group and he had a knife and other murder items so we should have a 30 second moment of silence to remember everyone affected. e. Dean 1. There are another set of interviews for the assistant Dean Tues. Nov. 18, Nov. 19, and Nov. 20th. Please sign up if you are available. 2. There has been talk about naming the new OVT after a donor. What do you all think about it being named on a corporate sponsor? i. STUD Justice: He is opposed to it because it should be for the students and run by the campus. ii. SCORE: I appreciate having the freedom to name the dining hall and does not want to have that taken away by the capitol system iii. VC Finance: We could have a wall for the donors to recognize them instead of it being the name. iv. Food Pantry: Agrees that it should be named off of the students voice. v. ASCE: It would go against the very principles of Marshall College. vi. VC Finance: Since Geisel is named off of Dr. Seuss it might be okay if it was named off of a person vii. VC External: The corporation would not be in line with student protests against University regulation. viii. JBoard: Agrees with above reasons. ix. International Rep: It is a tradition for lecture halls to not be named off of companies so it could cause a continued theme of everything becoming named by sponsors. x. Straw pole: all members were against a corporate name except two abstained f. Chair 1. Email [email protected] if you missed retreat. 2. Finance committee will most likely be on Monday at 8pm, Internal meetings should be updated next week. 3. He is going to start council buddy of the month to get to know other council members. Send him a picture! Eat out with your mentees/mentors! 4. If you are not in the Facebook group talk to me or Ali so we can add you. Kevin does not send friend requests on Facebook so if you want to be his friend just request him. 5. He is going to talk to our STUD Imagination about apparel so we can have them ASAP. 6. He will post a document with your birthday so please fill it out so we can sing for you. 7. Plans for Council Socials/games. Gotcha (Assassin) or food social (rides?) i. VC External: We could do a group study event so we could all study together. ii. STUD Justice: We could do a card game night. 1. Yes but it might be a smaller group thing. iii. International Rep. We could plan an event like taking off the nametag from other members. You put it on your back and try to get other people’s nametags. iv. Dir. Meagher: I can make a google doc with the birthdays and candies combined. v. Senator Vahdani: In the CCP Meeting they wanted to know if we would be willing to plan an event for students after Sun God so students would have something to do. They also talked about the constitutional changes and if we would be willing to switch our transition to week 8 with the rest of A.S. 1. SCORE: SCORE could probably hold an event too. 2. Dir. Meagher: I liked terming in week 5 not week 8 so we have time to get used to our positions. 3. SFAC: Having our Senators term in week 8 would have them miss the transition so that could take away that opportunity especially for people not already on council. It would also help to make connections with the old AS council. a. Senator Vahdani: Personally the terming in last year was too early and did not work because they had already been together for so long. b. Senator Zhong: It was confusing to adapt to the AS culture so it would help to have those extra weeks to get used to it. 4. WCSAB: Would it be possible to have a three week transition? a. They could but only two would get paid. In ERC the senators went to AS meetings who had termed out but they did not have to. 5. Food Pantry: Leaning towards the 5th week term in because it would help them get experience. 6. The AS Retreat was not until this weekend so they would still have time to learn just along with the other people. 7. Straw Pole: Want to plan an event after Sun God: 23, Do not want to plan the event: 0, Abstain: 12. 8. ASCE: MAC or SCORE could help out with budget and planning as well. 9. WCSAB: Splitting up after events could cause Detox help to be slower response. a. Food Pantry: They closed Sun God early last year because they did not have the budget to keep the first responders there. b. VC External: It may be hard for people to get so far away from RIMAC c. Commuter Rep: Separating people would be hard because people want to stay together and united i. It’s not for school spirit as much as safety. d. SCORE: Having the events far away is not going to help if people are too intoxicated to walk far away. e. JBoard: All the councils should come together to plan events after so it would be cheaper and we could get the best ideas. f. Food Pantry: Motion to close the speakers list with no additions. 10. Straw Pole: Support college senators transferring week 8: 4, week 5: 16 , need more information 6 X. XI. XII. 11. Chair: Next week the SCORE movie night starts at 8pm so hopefully we can all go! g. Other TMCSC Members 1. EORO Proxy: The Reveals event is Wed. 11/11 from 5:30-7pm at OVL 2. UCAB: SIM Mixer 11/18 from 5-9pm free for all students and medical professionals. i. The deadline for student org to pick up keys is 11/13. They are looking into new guidelines for storage spaces. ii. Porter’s pub recommendation was approved. The discussion will be held at their retreat this Saturday. 1. 2M-2.8M Project: $600K long term, 600K reserves, and 800K loan to pay back over 8 years. By 2019 their reserves would be back up. 1M loan is also possible. 2. But the funding project for the pub is still being discussed over and is subject to change. iii. Food Pantry: What would be the effects of the larger loan? 1. We would not have to take as much out of reserves if the loan is higher. iv. STUD Justice: Recommends taking out a smaller loan and taking more out of the reserves in order to allow for a quicker payback. 3. MAC Rep: The semiformal meetings are on Mondays from 6-6:45pm if anyone wants to come out Question Time/Announcements 1. Jboard: Remember to use gender inclusive language and make sure you get called on before you speak. 2. Dir. Jang: If you have not taken your picture yet make sure to contact her. 3. ACT: Thurgood Marshall week is week 8! The theme is the voices of Marshall. The days are Find, Raise, Speak, and Keep your voice and they will need volunteers. 4. STUD S&C: UCSD Students for Global Health has an event on 11/16 to have a conversation on AIDS and HIV and there will be speakers there. If you are interested in attending RSPV though the event page she will post on our Facebook Page. 5. Senator Vahdani: The gender buffet is on women Refugees and there will be snacks from Trader Joes. 6. HDH Rep.: When will org reps find out where their meetings are? a. Chair: He is still working on finding the times so he will let you know. i. Also he will be doing two more short presentations, one on Robert’s Rules and one on council elections.
