One day Workshop on Utilization of Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stove The College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Ranipool, Gangtok, Sikkim was organized one day workshop on Utilization of Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stove on October 29, 2015 sponsored by Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India, New Delhi at New ATIC Conference Hall of College. The workshop was organized by Dr. Mahendra S. Seveda, Associate Professor (Renewable Energy), College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology, Central Agricultural University, Ranipool, Gangtok, Sikkim as Convener under the Chairmanship of Prof. P. K. Srivastava, Dean, CAEPHT, CAU, Ranipool, Gangtok, Sikkim. The workshop on Utilization of Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stove attended by delegates from different organizations to share experience and to discuss strategies for enhancing the use of energy efficient improved biomass cook stove. A total of 50 participants (researchers, scientists, academicians, students, households and biomass cook stove manufacturers) from all over India participated in this workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Kalyan Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University, Gangtok as Chief Guest under the Chairmanship of Prof. P. K. Srivastava, Dean, CAEPHT, CAU, Ranipool, Gangtok, Sikkim. While welcoming, Dr. Mahendra S. Seveda, Convener of workshop, briefed the purpose of the workshop is to bring together the researchers, scientists, academicians, students and households on a common platform to interact with one another and deliberate on the utilization of energy efficient improved biomass cook stoves and dissemination of research project on Promotion on Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stoves in Rural Areas of Sikkim findings for the benefit of masses. The installed energy efficient improved biomass cook stoves are benefited of the rural households as it would save fuel wood, petroleum products (LPG & Kerosene) and reduce harmful emission with particulate dispersion for ensuring smoke free healthy environment within the household kitchen to protect the drudgeries associate with the cooking activities of village women mostly being dependent on traditional biomass cook stoves. Prof. Kalyan Kumar, Chief Guest mentioned in his inaugural address that the Government of India having very much focus on efficient use of energy and reduce the losses. He stated that this workshop is very relevant at this juncture, major challenges faced by the country in the energy have major implications for the economic growth and development of the country. He emphasized mainly on the energy security issues arising out of continued price rise in petroleum products. He also mentioned that the energy efficient improved biomass cook stove is a promising option for substitute of LPG cook stove in the rural areas. He also mentioned that presently electrical system losses in India are 22% which is very high as compared developed countries. Dr. P. K. Srivastava, Chairman highlighted the utilization of energy efficient improved biomass cook stove which was developed by college. He also mentioned that the present design of energy efficient improved double pot biomass cook stove was developed for hilly regions where small utensils are used for cooking. He also informed that total 1000 numbers of double pot energy efficient improved biomass cook stoves were installed in different clusters of villages in Sikkim on sharing basis (30% share of beneficiaries & 70% funded by PCRA, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India) and performance of improved cook stoves were evaluated and compared with traditional biomass cook stoves on premises of farmers/households. The average thermal efficiency of constructed double pot improved biomass cook stoves of 28.65% which falls with the range of values of thermal efficiency of several works all over the world. 03 technical sessions were completed in the one day workshop on Utilization of Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stove. The Workshop on Utilization of Energy Efficient Improved Biomass Cook Stove recommends that the energy efficient improved double pot biomass cook stove which was developed under PCRA sponsored research project is the promising option in the rural area for saving of biomass, saving of cooking time, save petroleum products (LPG & Kerosene), reduce harmful emission with particulate dispersion for ensuring smoke free healthy environment within the household kitchen.
