Course Description
This course is a self-paced conditioning class for the motivated student. The purpose of this course is to provide
students the opportunity to assess their current physical fitness level, establish personal fitness goals, and to
develop and follow an individualized self-paced program to improve overall physical fitness.
Course Overview
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to continue their individual fitness program. Emphasis
should be on enhancing the five health-related fitness components: cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength,
muscle endurance, flexibility, and a healthy body composition.
Physical Education Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Physical Education distribution requirements (3 activity credits) for the
Associates Degree, students will:
1. Critically evaluate and communicate health and/or fitness related information
2. Engage regularly in physical fitness and/or sports activities using skills developed in the physical
education program.
3. Practice a personal wellness/fitness plan based upon a periodic evaluation of their personal fitness
status
4. Exhibit personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activities.

COURSE GOALS
1. Identify health related components and principles related to exercise.
2. Identify the benefits of aerobic and anaerobic activity as it relates to wellness.
3. Construct an effective, comprehensive fitness plan based upon individual fitness assessment and personal
fitness goals.
4. Implement the fitness plan in order to achieve personal goals.
5. Appraise improvement in the components of health related fitness as listed in the personal fitness plan.
Student Outcomes: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to…
1. Document effectiveness of your personal fitness plan (improvement).
2. Revise personal fitness activities as personal goals change.
3. Demonstrate safe and effective use of equipment in the TCC fitness center.
4. Be able to list numerous physical fitness/wellness benefits derived from consistent participation in fitness
related activities.

Course Policies
Papers / Assignments/ Exams must be turned in by the due date (listed at the end of this document). No late work
will be accepted.
Academic Dishonesty
As stated in the TCC catalog, “Students are expected to be honest and forthright in their academic endeavors.
Cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, or other forms of academic dishonesty corrupt the learning process and threaten
the educational environment for all students.” The complete Administrative Process for Academic Dishonesty is
available on the TCC website in the Student Portal.
In this course, academic dishonesty will result in a zero for that assignment. Multiple offenses may result in
expulsion from the course.
Student Responsibilities/ Course Procedures
Attendance Policy:
1. Students must attend at least two work-out sessions per week.
2. Each workout should be at least 50 minutes. Only 50 minutes per workout will count towards
your total minutes.
3. Schedule your workouts during the OPEN USE in the fitness center, when classes are not in session.
4. One workout per day/two workouts each week will be counted.
5. If you are enrolled in both PE 170 and 171, one workout will not count for both.
6. Each workout must be noted on the class Attendance Log form.
Participation Policy:
Students must abide by the “TCC Fitness Center” policies and guidelines posted in the Fitness Center. If you
do not follow the rules, you cannot workout and will be asked to leave. Multiple offenses may result in expulsion
from the course.
You are allowed to complete your workouts at an alternate location.
Student Support Services
Students with Special Needs:
Students are responsible for all requirements of the class, but the way they meet these requirements may vary. If you
need specific auxiliary aids or services due to a disability, please contact the Access Services office in Building 7 (253566-5093). They will require you to present formal, written documentation of your disability from an appropriate
professional. When this step has been completed, arrangements will be made for you to receive reasonable auxiliary
aids or services. The disability accommodation documentation prepared by Access Services must be given to me before
the accommodation is needed so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Policy regarding complaints about the Instructor:
If you have questions or concerns about this class or me, please come to talk with me about your concerns. I also
serve as the Physical Education Department Chair. If we are unable to resolve your concerns, you may talk next with
the Dean of Health/Justice/ Human Services (and Physical Education), Bldg. 19. The Dean can assist with information
about additional steps, if needed.

Students must attend an orientation session- read materials and respond as directed to receive credit.
All workouts must be completed in the TCC Fitness Center (unless you notify the instructor).
Students must complete a Personal Fitness Profile and Personal Fitness Goals sheet.
Students will develop a Personal Workout Plan and follow that plan during the quarter.
Students must attend at least two workout sessions per week at a minimum of 50 minutes per workout.
Students must complete an end of the quarter, one page “Reflection” summary. See attached criteria.
7. Complete any of the listed assignments (see below) to earn 50 pts.

Grading
Your grade is determined by the number of minutes you workout AND your (points) for completed assignments.
Your grade will be based upon the following workout times (expressed in minutes):
(20 workouts@ 5 pts each= 100) You need 20 workouts for full credit
100-90 = A
80-85= B
70–75 = B
60-65 = C
55= D
50 or less = E
In the Angel grade book attendance points will be listed on a scale of 1-100. Each workout is worth 5 points.

This assignment gives you the opportunity to look back over the past 10 weeks and reflect on your fitness
plan and goals. In a typed, one page, summary reflect on how the quarter went in regards to PE 170 or 171.
Can be submitted hard copy or electronically.
1. Did you meet your “Fitness Goals”? Why or why not?
2. Were there barriers that prevented you from attaining your goals? If so, what were they? If not, what helped you
stay motivated and committed to your program?
3. What is next? Are you planning on continuing your exercise program after this class is over? If no, why not? If
yes, what motivational strategies will you use to continue your program?


Procedure to submit assignments
There are two ways you can submit assignments:
1.
You can turn in (hard copy) paperwork to the building secretary in building F-1 or to the GHC main counter secretary
(have them sent to me- please note it takes 2 days for documents to be sent from the GHC to the TCC main campus).
When you submit *hard copy* assignments it must be time/date stamped by the person you gave the paperwork. The
time/date stamp must be within the assignment due date/time.
2.
You can submit work electronically as an attachment to an email to me. When submitting documents to me via email
the SUBJECT for the email must be: PE 170 ASSIGNMENT. Work must be submitted within the assignment due
date/time.
Assignments can be submitted prior to the due date.
