VariQuest® Design Center Software v4.0 Release Notes March 2014 New Features/Enhancements Operating Systems: VariQuest 4.0 supports Microsoft Windows 8 Pro 32-bit or 64-bit and Enterprise operating systems, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and 64-bit, and Windows XP Pro (SP3) operating systems. Poster Maker 3600 and Perfecta™ 2400 ‘My PDFs’ Feature: VariQuest 4.0 supports easy reading and printing of PDF files. The user is able to select a PDF directly from the VariQuest software, preview multiple pages, and print specific pages to the VariQuest Poster Maker 3600 or Perfecta 2400 printers – without the need to adjust the output scaling. There is a 99-page limit when printing PDF files. Perfecta™ Multiple Poster Size Options: Users will now have a variety of output sizes to choose from for output of Perfecta posters. The approximate output size is displayed below the preview image. ® o Standard – Prints to roll-fed media. Most posters are approximately 24" x 34", while banners will be scaled according to 24 inch width. o Medium – Prints to roll-fed media. The longest edge of the poster will be 24 inches. Option not available for most banners. o 13" x 19" Sheet – Prints to sheet-fed tray located on the back of the Perfecta printer. Option not available for banners. o 8.5" x 11" Sheet - Prints to sheet-fed tray located on the back of the Perfecta printer. Option not available for banners. Perfecta™ 2400 Scanner Improvements and Features: o Improved image quality when previewing scanned documents. o Saving Scan-to-Print Images: Users are now able to save scanned images. After scanning the original document, the user is prompted to save the scanned image. Saved scans are accessed by selecting ‘My Files’ in the Perfecta module. o Scan-to-Template: When choosing a graphic for an existing template, the user can now scan a document; rotate if needed and insert the image directly onto the template using Scan-to-Template button. Once scanned onto the template, the user can either print the poster immediately, or save the scanned poster to be printed at another time. On-line Content Activation: The previous version of the software, VariQuest 3.1, introduced on-line activation for the PACD’s and Learning Modules. Customers were able to activate content using the VariQuest website, without having to call Varitronics Customer Service. VariQuest 4.0 implemented automatic activation of content when connected to the internet. Below outlines the three ways a customer can activate Learning Module content: o Design Center or PC connected to the internet (NEW) – Activation occurs automatically – the customer is not required to enter and receive an activation code. They simply insert the CD and follow the on-screen prompts to enter key user information. (Note – certain exceptions such as reactivation of a CD on a different computer, may not allow for automatic activations. A prompt will be returned to call Varitronics Customer Service for assistance and override). o Design Center or PC not connected to internet – Obtain activation code online at www.variquest.com/activate (introduced in August 2013). © 2014 Varitronics, LLC All Rights Reserved Visit www.variquest.com o Design Center or PC not connected to internet – Contact Varitronics Customer Service at 1-800328-0585 for activation code. This option will always be available should the other two methods fail to properly activate content. Graphic Improvements and Features: o Rotate Images: When importing an image from the Find My Own Graphic button, users can rotate the images counterclockwise in 90 degree increments before importing the graphic. o Flip Images: Users can now select an image and flip it horizontally 180 degrees. This is useful when a user has a logo on either side of a text field and wants the logo to face a different direction. VariQuest Training Videos added to Workroom Assistant – Documentation tab. Customers purchasing a new Design Center 2300 will have access to the training videos through the Workroom Assistant – Documentation tab. Scroll through the Categories and Document List to view available product videos. Current customers upgrading to VariQuest 4.0 or customers installing the software on their own PC’s will be able to access a link in Workroom Assistant. The link will take them to the product training videos on the VariQuest website – www.variquest.com. Their system will need internet connection to view the videos. Defect Fixes and Updates Print Quality o In previous versions, Oversize A1 and Letter created posters of different sizes. This issue has been addressed and Letter now prints at the same size as Oversize A1. o Perfecta Posters did not print centered. Posters printed to the Perfecta Poster Printer now print centered. o Miscellaneous template fixes Important Information 2 • Administrator rights are required to install and run VariQuest Design Center Software v4.0 • If the Device-Only Install is run and one or more device drivers are already on the system, those driver installs will be skipped and the “Installation Complete” message will still appear. This is because both old and new drivers will work with VariQuest 4.0, but problems may occur if both drivers are installed on the same system. • If posters are marked as "Banners", only the ‘Standard’ output size option is available for printing. • The Perfecta driver may get changed to an incorrect document size, causing incorrectly scaled output. This may occur if the user changed the document size in order to print from non-VariQuest programs. If the output is not printing to correct scale, check the Document Size in the driver. (Select Printing Preferences from the HP T520 drivers, select Paper/Quality tab, and check that the Document Size is set to ‘Letter’ or ‘Oversize: A1’).
