2. Message from our CEO
MyMind 2016: A milestone year
It is my pleasure to welcome you to MyMind’s
10th Annual Report for the year ending 2016.
2016 was a very important milestone in the
journey of MyMind.
Our 10th anniversary gave us the opportunity
to reflect on how far MyMind has come since
its beginnings, providing an incredible 70,000
appointments since 2006.
In June, we looked back not only on a decade of
remarkable growth and achievement, but most
importantly, on our dedication to making
access to mental health support possible for
everyone.
Over the last 10 years, we have stayed tirelessly
focused on creating easy access to mental
health services across Ireland.
I am proud to say that 2016 was another year
of growth for the organisation.
Last winter, we provided a record number of
appointments, and saw an increase of close to
50% across our four centres.
By the end of 2016, we had provided 17,000
appointments to our clients, a growth of 21%
from the previous year.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of
our supporters and friends who made our work
possible over the last 10 years.
I want to thank my wonderful team for
remaining steadfastly committed to giving the
best possible support to those who seek it.
Finally and most significantly, I want to thank
everyone who has reached out to us over the
last 10 years. Your trust in us has inspired
others to take those first steps to wellbeing.
Throughout the year, we collaborated with
leading organisations, experts and inspirational
individuals and forged new partnerships along
the way. We recognised the power of working
together and the strength in numbers for
tackling the stigma still all too prevalent around
mental health issues.
When I set up MyMind, I envisaged an Ireland
wherein asking for help was celebrated, and
getting help was easy.
In Cork, we were proud to have helped shape
the HSE’s suicide prevention strategy
‘Connecting for Life’ for the county, in a bid to
empower others to improve their mental health
and wellbeing.
In 2017, we will continue to keep this goal
firmly in our sights and look forward to another
decade and beyond of making mental health
better for everyone.
We continued to grow our team of multilingual
mental health professionals from all over the
world and nurtured a culture of inclusiveness
and engagement within our organisation.
At times, this goal seemed unreachable.
However, a decade on, I’m proud to say, we
have it in our grasp.
Krystian Fikert

3. Message from our Chairperson
I am delighted to introduce our annual report for
2016.
It has been a milestone year for MyMind with
the organisation celebrating its 10th anniversary.
This is a major achievement and great credit is
due to the entire team that has contributed to
building MyMind throughout this decade with
the leadership of Krystian Fikert.
We also owe deep gratitude to supporters and
sponsors that have helped MyMind realise a
vision of providing accessible and affordable
counselling services to clients.
MyMind has grown strongly in the last year.
Annual growth of 21% in appointments was
accentuated by a year-on-year increase of 32% in
the last quarter of 2016.
This reflected the successful growth of MyMind’s
capacity at our second Dublin location in Store
Street and a new location in Limerick’s O’Connell
Street. Regional impact is now also well
established with our locations in Limerick, led by
Michelle O’Connor, and Cork, led by Kevin
O’Connor, providing some 30% of services
nationwide.
We look forward to an exciting year ahead at
MyMind. We aim to achieve further capacity
growth, improve online access for national and
international clients and provide new, quality
content in videos, articles and interviews to help
support our clients and enhance mental
wellbeing.
May you enjoy a healthy and happy 2017.
A key differentiator for MyMind is our ability to
support clients in an Ireland that is rich in
diversity. We have brought together a team of
75 high quality professionals from all over the
world and offer services in over 15 languages.
MyMind also uniquely provides a platform for
counsellors to learn from and support each
other. This enables skill building, best practice
sharing and, most importantly, enhances the
quality of psychotherapeutic support for our
clients. Standards of practice are further
strengthened by formal continuous professional
development training.
John Travers
Chairperson
We will miss the valuable contributions of
outgoing chairperson Ciara O’Toole and board
member Michael Binchy. Their dedication,
professionalism and insightful guidance have
shaped MyMind and we will continue to build on
the firm platform they have helped create. We
welcome Robert A. Bourke, Barrister-at-Law, to
our Board of Directors in 2017.

Accessible
Affordable
For everyone
MyMind’s vision
Everyone has quick and easy access to
affordable mental health services
MyMind’s purpose
To pioneer a new and sustainable model of community based and online mental health services that are
accessible and affordable to everyone.
Who we are
MyMind Centre for Mental Wellbeing was founded in 2006 as a not-for-profit community based provider
of accessible mental health care. We now have centres in Dublin, Cork and Limerick, providing a wide
range of clients with counselling and psychotherapy services.
MyMind charges our clients fees based upon their employment status, allowing full time students and
those who are unemployed to access our services at reduced rates. The revenue generated from our full
fee clients is reinvested into the organisation, enabling us to provide services that are affordable to all.
It is easy for a client to self-refer to MyMind, appointments are usually made within 72 hours of a client
contacting our office. Additionally, MyMind has a multidisciplinary, multicultural team that is able to
provide services in more than 15 languages, enabling us to serve the migrant population.
At MyMind we believe our work addresses a huge social need, providing proven positive outcomes for
those impacted by mental health issues.
Our affordable and timely mental health services mean people have the best chance of getting back to a
positive frame of mind sooner and with lasting results. We impact the lives of individuals and their
families, their communities, and Irish society as a whole.

4.2. What we do
Face to face:
MyMind is able to provide face to face services out of four centres nationally.
Our headquarters is located in Ranelagh - Dublin 6 and we also have centres in
Store Street - Dublin 1, Cork city and Limerick city. Clients are able to easily
schedule appointments with our team of counsellors, psychotherapists and
psychologists through our self-referral system. Bookings can be made online
or over the phone. MyMind provides services for individuals, couples, children
and adolescents who are looking to speak with a mental health professional.
In 2016, 2,463 clients came for an average of 6.9 sessions, and MyMind
provided a total of 17,002 appointments.
Online:
MyMind offers the option of psychological assistance via online therapy
sessions. These are delivered via videoconferencing over the internet and can
be useful for people who are unable to come to one of our four centres.
Through online sessions, the client is able to have regular therapy sessions
from the privacy and convenience of their own home. We also offer an
exclusive, free of charge supportive consultation via e-mail, which can be used
by clients in addition to face-to-face consultations. Through this tool, clients
can have some of their doubts or questions answered before considering
whether a face-to-face consultation is right for them. In 2016, MyMind online
provided 362 appointments, and responded to 4,266 email queries and 1,630
chats (work time: 8788:06 hours).
In the workplace:
At MyMind, we recognise that how people feel in work has a big impact on
their productivity and job satisfaction. With that in mind, we developed
MyMind at Work to help employees manage some of the emotional barriers
that can prevent them from thriving in the workplace. Through a series of
talks, seminars and workshops, MyMind at Work helps develop mental fitness.
Talks are designed for a larger audience and act as an introduction to the
value of emotional wellbeing, while our seminars provide smaller groups with
a more interactive experience. Half day and full day workshops give indepth
guidance to participants on how to become more productive inside and
outside of work. Our team of experienced psychologists and psychotherapists

provide employees with skills and tools to improve their focus, productivity and overall wellbeing.
MyMind at Work topics include mindfulness, stress reduction, lifestyle changes and positive thinking.
MyMind is also able to offer packages of counselling sessions to companies for their employees. These
packages are ideally suited to small to medium sized companies: packages contain 6 appointments with
one of our psychotherapists, allowing companies to buy sessions as they’re needed by employees. In
2016, we provided MyMind at Work sessions within the corporate and NGO sector. We continued to
grow our provision of services in the workplace for small and medium sized companies looking to support
their employees with their mental wellbeing.

Last June, we came together with our friends, supporters and special guests to look back on a decade of
serving the community with accessible mental health support.
Since 2006, we’ve achieved much, grown consistently and overcome many challenges to bring you the
best possible support.
4 centres
40 + partners
75 mental health professionals
70,000 appointments
MyMind CEO and Founder Krystian Fikert said, “Over the last 10 years, the work we’ve done has been
driven by a belief that everyone should have easy access to mental health services when they need them,
no matter where they’re living in Ireland.
“In this time, we have worked tirelessly to make communities better and to help our clients live happy and
fulfilled lives. We will continue this work over the next decade and beyond.
“I want to thank all of our supporters and friends, but most importantly, our clients, for entrusting us to
help them in their journey to mental wellbeing. I want to urge anyone who is struggling with their mental
health to get in touch with us today. We’re here to help.”
Special guest and speaker at our celebrations, former Ardmheara/Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní
Dhálaigh said, “Mental health affects us all. You might be feeling low or lonely. You might be stressed at
work or experiencing panic attacks at college. You might have a friend or partner, family member or
colleague, who has been struggling for a while and yet doesn’t know where to turn for help.
“You’re not alone. If this is the case, please talk about it. Get in touch with the team at MyMind, talk to
someone you can trust, and never be ashamed or embarrassed about how you’re feeling.”

5.2. MyMind in the media
In 2016, our team lent their expert voice to print, online and broadcast media. They shared their stories,
experiences and insight to show others that they’re not alone. We want to give a big thank you to the
media for giving us the opportunity to keep the conversation around mental health going.

"With MyMind, you just call or click online to get the help you need. It's as easy as that. And the great
thing is that the cost is based on your personal situation. If there is anyone out there reading this who is
going through a difficult time, then I urge you to take that important first step and contact MyMind."
Not-for-profit counselling service opens new offices in Limerick
“We really are growing in Limerick. A lot more people are aware of us. We have had a great response
from the Limerick community. We have always had a very positive response, particularly on our sliding
scale. People have always been very receptive to that."
The computer will see you now - the rise of online therapy
"Accessibility is at the core of our mission. We believe mental health services should be in everyone's
reach so we couple our face-to-face counselling with the online option to extend the reach of our
services."

5.3. Growth
New Limerick centre
In February, we more than doubled our capacity in
Limerick with a new centre in the heart of the city. We
moved from 66 O’Connell Street to the nearby 50
O’Connell Street allowing us to provide accessible and
affordable mental health services to many more clients
in the community. MyMind CEO Krystian Fikert said
about the new Limerick centre opening, “The continued
growth of MyMind in Limerick shows that there is a
great demand for affordable care for those who need it,
and we are delighted to be able to meet this demand
with a bigger centre and a growing team.”
Cllr Daniel Butler and Michelle O’Connor
Winter growth
Last November, MyMind supported a record number of people with their mental wellbeing. MyMind
provided 1,784 appointments in November alone. This is compared to 1,226 appointments made by
clients in the same month last year - a growth of almost 47%. In the final quarter of 2016 (Oct - Dec),
MyMind saw an increase of 32% in appointments. CEO Krystian said, “Winter can be a difficult time for
many of us. The shorter days and bad weather can really take its toll on our wellbeing. If you are feeling
low, anxious, stressed or lonely, a seemingly neverending winter can make us feel worse and more
isolated. We may feel completely spent by the end of a difficult year, and be ready to reach out for help
before a new year begins. The record increase in appointments also shows that the stigma around asking
for help is slowly but surely breaking down in Ireland. The more accessible our services are, the easier it is
for people to get the help they need, when they need it.”
5.4. Team Development
"By offering training opportunities, MyMind provides a platform to learn and develop my
professional knowledge. In turn, I can help more people who are seeking support, which is my most
important role as a therapist."
At MyMind, we bring together mental health professionals from all over the world to guide you through
your journey to wellbeing. Our team is dedicated to their work with people of all ages and backgrounds
and committed to enhancing their knowledge and expertise in order to deliver the best possible support
for their clients' needs. In 2016, we worked with leading organisations and experts to provide a range of
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training for our team.
Through peer support, our team is constantly learning from each other’s shared experience and
expertise, while providing mutual guidance and encouragement in a nurturing environment.
" In 2016, One in Four was delighted to provide training for counsellors and psychotherapists working
with MyMind. The day focused on the impact of mandatory reporting of child protection concerns on the
therapeutic relationship and it was a very positive experience for facilitators and participants. The
MyMind counsellors and psychotherapists engaged very actively in the training and were able to use their
wide experience of working with survivors of child sexual abuse to reflect on the challenges mandatory
reporting brings and to explore strategies to address these. Maeve Lewis and Deirdre Kenny from One in
Four facilitated the day."
Maeve Lewis, Executive Director, One in Four
MyMind - ANNUAL REPORT 2016
Page 14
"I found the CPD training with One in Four on Mandatory Reporting delivered an invaluable and essential
tool for the therapist to work in a more effective, sensitive and informative way with clients. The training
itself was presented and delivered in a highly professional, supportive and inclusive manner instilling
confidence when broaching such a delicate subject."
Anita Murphy, MyMind Dublin South
"Level 1 Training of Gottman's Method Couples Therapy was one of the best courses I've had a chance to
attend. It was very well structured, clear and informative. Presented data was based on research and
plenty of references were given. Techniques and materials provided were ready-to-use in practice and
applicable in both couples and individual therapy. I would recommend this training for therapists already
working with couples as well as for those who are just starting their journey as a couple's therapist. By
offering training opportunities, MyMind provides a platform to learn and develop my professional
knowledge. In turn, I can help more people who are seeking support, which is my most important role as
a therapist."
Karolina Jurasik, MyMind Dublin North/South
Carmen Bryce and Brenda Pedrosa
MyMind Limerick team
"Working as a mental health professional such as a counsellor or psychotherapist can be very rewarding
but isolating at times. Much of the work with clients involves the therapist and client only on a daily basis.
In my experience peer support meetings have been hugely beneficial to me in the work that I carry out
with my clients. In these meetings I get to share my personal professional experiences and hear from my
peers also in relation to their own experiences. This has helped to increase my knowledge of therapeutic
practices and approaches and improve my skills in working as effectively as possible with my clients with
a greater confidence. Feedback is given at times and can be both encouraging and informative.
Reading my peers' profiles had helped me learn a little about their approaches and work ethics but sitting
in a room with my peers and being able to engage in interesting and thought provoking discussions with
them has allowed me to learn so much more about the individuals I work with on both a personal and
professional level. Because of this insight, I feel better equipped to refer clients whom I believe could
possibly benefit more from working with a therapist with a different approach to mine. In my experience,
peer support meetings involve the mental health professionals learning from each other in whatever way
they can. I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere very much and would encourage anyone involved in mental
health care to take part in peer support."

5.5. Ambassador
“I’m making it a goal of mine to show people out there who
are struggling that it is real, it is tough, but with the right
environment, with the right amount of work, not only can
you beat it, but you can become stronger for what you
experienced. My goal is not only to represent Ireland but
also to get MyMind out there so people who are struggling
know they can get help if they need it.”
In 2016, we were proud to welcome Brendan Doyle to the MyMind team as our Ambassador for mental
health.
Brendan is an ex-Garda and Winter Olympics hopeful from Dublin. Close to seven years ago, his life was
turned upside down in a heartbeat. What followed was a painful struggle with depression and anxiety.
Brendan lost all hope in ever enjoying life again, until he discovered his passion in life and began to fight
for his dream of Olympic glory.
We are incredibly fortunate to be working alongside Brendan who shares our vision of mental health
care for all and is devoted to helping us advocate for this message.

In 2016, we supported and joined forces with a number of organisations to bring us one step closer to
better mental health in Ireland and beyond. We believe in the power of collaboration in spreading a
positive message about mental health and the collective strength it garners in making stigma a thing of
the past.
New partnerships
In 2016, we forged new partnerships across various sectors with organisations such as the Migraine
Association of Ireland and the Aura Sports and Leisure group, driven by shared values and a commitment
to our service users.
Advocacy and events
2016 was a very busy year for the MyMind team for taking part in events and campaigns in Dublin,
Limerick and Cork that raised awareness of mental health in Ireland. From a very active Mental Health
Week to playing a dedicated role in the HSE’s suicide prevention strategy Connecting for Life in Cork, we
worked collaboratively for change that would lead to better outcomes for anyone struggling with their
mental health.
5.7. Online presence
mymind.org
Since relaunching our website in 2015, we have worked hard to
improve user experience and develop a bank of information on
mental health.
mymind.org features the latest news on MyMind as well as
blogs, videos and interviews from our team of experts.
In 2016, 104,995 people used the MyMind website - an
increase of 25% since 2015. 59,398 of users were from a
mobile device. We had 1,029,301 unique page views in 2016 a very significant increase of 636% in the last year. The average
time of the page visit was 3 mins, and 56 seconds.
Social media
In 2016, MyMind’s social media presence went from strength to strength, with our number of followers
climbing steadily. Our social media platforms are a key channel for engaging with our followers,
promoting positive mental health and supporting other organisations in their work.

7. Our clients
How we have helped
“I felt more hopeful for the future than I have for a long time after my first session. I am looking forward
to working through what I understand may be difficult conversations in the coming weeks and months in
the hope of feeling more hopeful and more positive for more of the time in the future.”
Client, Dublin South
“I am very pleased with the therapy I have received from my counsellor. My therapy sessions have
provided me with a safe place to speak openly and honestly about the issues that have been bothering me
and weighing upon me in my life. I am very grateful to have discovered MyMind because it offers
counselling services at a price everyone can afford. I would have not gone for counselling in the past
because I felt I couldn't afford it. I have found that speaking to someone who is trained to listen in a
caring yet observant way, in a confidential setting has been of enormous benefit to me. I feel I have
become unburdened of old baggage, developed new coping skills and found my inner authentic self
again. I intend to continue with my sessions long term as I feel it is a very beneficial therapeutic activity
indeed!”
Client, Dublin South
“I really think that I will benefit a lot from my therapy. My therapist is great. The premises are pleasant
and it is easier to get through the sessions in a nice environment.”
Client, Dublin North
“[The therapist] helped me a lot through my crisis and made me learn a lot about myself. Thank you very
much!”
Client, Cork
“The sessions absolutely fly by. I feel very comfortable and safe talking about my different experiences.
Confident that the process will produce dividends for me personally and feeling good about that. Thank
you!”
Client, Limerick

11.3. Letters from our regions
MyMind Cork
The need for the provision of mental health services in Cork has never been higher, which is evident from
the 14% growth in appointments we saw from 2016 compared to the previous year.
Over the course of 2016, we have strengthened and diversified our team of multidisciplinary,
multilingual professionals, with the addition of Polish, Czech, Slovak and Italian mental health
professionals in Cork. This has allowed us to better provide our services to the increasingly diverse needs
of people of Cork.
Through our ongoing efforts to connect with other services in the community, MyMind has embedded
itself as an integral part of the mental health landscape of Cork through innovation and the provision of
the highest quality service.
In 2016, MyMind celebrated its 3rd anniversary in Cork with an open day - an event attended by a
wonderful mix of people from charities, NGOs, the HSE and members of the public.
MyMind played an active role in the Connecting for Life strategy in Cork which will form the basis of
suicide and self harm prevention in the city and county.
For mental health and MyMind in Cork, 2017 is set to be a very promising year filled with new
opportunities to grow to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the high standard we have
set ourselves.

MyMind Limerick
This year has been very significant for MyMind Limerick branch.
In February 2016, we moved to a new centre which incited a new and exciting year for our team and
clients. Our new centre has been very well received by our clients, stakeholders and mental health
professional team. We have doubled our room capacity and created an inclusive and warm environment
in our new office. In reviewing the year, this move has allowed us to considerably increase our team and
in turn, services to clients.
We marked this significant time for Limerick by holding an open day where our friends, colleagues and
local community came to celebrate and view our new space. This was made even more special by having
resident blogger and yoga instructor, Maggie May O’Callaghan, hold a meditation session for willing
attendees.
MyMind Limerick attended and ran some great events in 2016. Limerick mental health week was a
highlight of 2016 with phenomenal community engagement and support. MyMind was delighted to be
involved with this week with the ongoing support from Limerick Mental Health Association.
MyMind Limerick not only provided one to one sessions during 2016, but also performed essential
mental health seminars and created some great content for our website and social media pages.
MyMind in Limerick hopes to continue to expand and engage within Limerick and become even more
embedded in the hearts of people when they feel they need support from our organisation.
We would like to thank everyone who helped make this year so influential for our service in Limerick in
the media, community, our team and local steering committee. We hope you continue to support our
mission to place mental health supports in the hands of everyone.
Michelle O’Connor
