The 2013 Fresh-‐Soph Play Auditions for

The 2013 Fresh-‐Soph Play Auditions for: AUDITIONS-‐Tuesday, November 12th from 3:45 to 6:30 In the little theater, 4200 CALLBACKS-‐ Wednesday, November 13th from 3:45 to 6:30 In the Little Theater, 4200 Synopsis: “Saddened and bewildered at her grandfather's approaching death, Tish runs to her "special tree." There, in a world of fantasy provided by her wish on a star, she meets the world's greatest dancing bear. He is old, like her grandfather, and is running away—from death. In trying to help him, she begins to understand the meaning of both life and death, which helps her to cope with her own sadness. The play blends realism and fantasy, pathos and humor. It is delightfully theatrical, with music, magic and dance, and enthusiastically applauded by children's audiences and family audiences. The Arkansaw Bear is an important work by America's foremost playwright for young audiences, sparkling with entertainment while also dramatizing, with poignancy, a universal truth”. Sign up for a time slot on the callboard (next to the PAC). Sign ups will be posted Tuesday November 5th. What to Prepare: Please come with a MEMORIZED Nursery Rhyme, poem, monologue or short children’s story. I suggest looking at Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Mother Goose or ANY other children’s literature. I invite you to be creative and to think outside of the box!! 1 Minute maximum. Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the show. If you can play an instrument, PLEASE bring it with you to auditions and incorporate it into your piece! Again, be creative!! I want to see you play and explore. Please know that your audition piece can be a song or musical nursery rhyme if you are choosing to accompany yourself with your instrument. Remember, when you audition for a show at Stevenson High School, you are auditioning for every role. It is the director’s job to cast you or not cast you as she sees fit. If you drop out of a show at Stevenson High School after you have been cast, you will NOT be eligible to auditions for another show at Stevenson unless you can prove through work in theatre classes and crew that you can accept the responsibility of being cast in a show. Do not damage your reputation by dropping out of a production. Scripts are available for OVERNIGHT checkout in my office, 6080. You will be checking the scripts out directly from me so please adhere to the overnight checkout policy. Failure to do so may affect casting decisions. Seriously. All cast members are required to help in building sets, hanging lights, etc. Crew days as well as weekend Crew Calls will be set up and you will be expected to attend. You may be asked to furnish portions of your own costume. The budget does not always allow the luxury of designing costumes for each character. Additionally, if and when costumes are provided for you, you must take care not to damage your costumes. Any rented or borrowed costumes or costume pieces for which SHS is charged “excessive wear” and/or replacement fees, the students will be expected to cover that cost. Please take care of all the garments you are issued for production. Sign up for an audition slot at the Fine Arts Call board located at the East entrance of the Performing Arts Center (east building). DO NOT LEAVE OPEN SLOTS. Sign up in the first available opening. When you audition, remember you can never be too loud!! Also, use and focus all of your energy into your story telling when you are on stage performing your text. Be Bold! Be creative! Take a risk! Have Fun! Make a choice and show me something!! If you have any questions, come see me, Ms. Nowak, in my office, 6080. I am available 2, 4B, and 7. I am also available 8th in 2204. I am also available by email at [email protected]. The Arkansaw Bear Audition Information Sheet Print this form then fill out the following information neatly (I must be able to read ALL information clearly) and bring it with you to auditions Tuesday, November 12th, 2013. You will not be cast without this form completed and signed by your parental unit. Name ________________________________________ ID Number ___________________________________ Parent(s) Names _____________________________________ Home Phone ________________________ Home Address _______________________________________________________________________________ Cell Phone _______________________________ Email _____________________________________________ What possible conflicts might you have with after school rehearsals? Be specific about times and dates. Very neatly write or type your complete list of all conflicts and attach it to this sheet. Be honest! I have read the audition packet and fully understand its contents. I also understand that rehearsals will be held after school from 3:45 to 6:30 Monday through Friday. Not every actor will be called for every rehearsal. It is clear to me that my participation in this audition process indicates a willingness to accept any role in the cast. A student who participates in the audition then declines a role after the cast list is posted forfeits the privilege of auditioning for all other Theater Department productions until a crew or staff position has been successfully served. _____________________________________________________ Student Signature I am aware that my son/daughter is auditioning for the Freshman-‐Sophomore Play and that rehearsal will be held after school during the months of November, December and January.
