Rona And The Moon
By Ocean
Rona lived in a small cottage
with her husband and her
children.
One day she made a hangi
then she realised there was no
water to put the fire out. She
went outside to get some
water from the river. Suddenly
a big cloud covered the moon.
She tripped over a root and
stubbed her toe, “ow!” She
was very mad at the moon.
She stood up, and with all her
might she cursed the moon.
Then she heard a sound and
she was scared.
Suddenly the moon came
down and grabbed her. She
was so terrified. “Please Iʼm
sorry, please let me go!”. The
moon didnʼt let her go so she
hung on to a tree. The tree got
lifted out of the ground.
The next morning her husband
said “Whereʼs Rona?” Then
they heard a sound.
“Iʼm up here on the moon”.
They looked up and there she
was, still holding onto the tree.
When you look up at the moon
at night you can still see Rona
holding on tightly to the tree.

Why are you crying and whining Baby Moon?
One day the Baby Moon was crying when Cloud was passing by and he stopped and
said, “Whatʼs wrong baby moon?” Moon said, “ I canʼt see my reflection in the sea”.
So Cloud said, “Why donʼt you make yourself bright yellow”. So that is was he did.
Then he went to look in the ocean and he looked down but he started to cry again
because he still couldnʼt see his reflection. Rain came passing by and stopped and
asked Moon, “Why are you crying?” She said, “I canʼt see my reflection”, so Rain said,
“Yourʼe too small, you need to get bigger. So he waited for some days to pass until he
was bigger but when he went to see his reflection it still wasnʼt there. So he cried and
cried until Thunder and Lighting came and they said, “Whatʼs wrong Moon?” Moon
said I canʼt see my reflection in the sea. Thunder and Lighting said, “Make yourself
dazzle and shine more. So he did that. When he did that he went back to the sea, but
still his reflection wasnʼt there and he started to cry again. But then Rainbow came
and said, “Whatʼs wrong Moon?” “I canʼt see my reflection in the sea.” So she said to
the Moon that you need to ask the sea to go smooth and not be so rough then you will
see your reflection. So he did and that worked. So now he is a really, really happy

Why the Moon was Crying
The moon was very sad because she couldnʼt see her reflection shining on the ocean.
So she asked Cloud how to see herself in the dark blue ocean. Cloud told her to
make herself bright gleaming yellow. So she did what he said, but it didnʼt work. So
she went to rain to ask for another idea to help moon. He said, “Why donʼt you make
yourself bigger”. So she did. But that didnʼt work either. So she sobbed so hard that
Thunder and Lighting came to see why she was crying. She told them the story. They
said for her to try and dazzle harder. But that did not work either.
So she went to rainbow to ask for his advice and he said, “Talk to
the god of the sea to calm the waves down”. So moon did.
Finally she saw herself in the sea.
