The Lower School Narnia program provides students with a safe & fun environment where they can spend time after school until 6:00 p.m. Students in Narnia have the opportunity to play games, bake, make art projects, do their homework, play with their friends, or relax with a good book. The Enrichment program in Liberty is divided into 3 terms to coincide with the academic school year. Classes in each term – fall, winter, and spring – meet once a week for 9 weeks and are open to all Lower School students that are in good academic standing. Miss Mara King [email protected] Liberty Hall Narnia number: 262-252-6658 3 NARNIA: About the program Narnia, located in the Liberty Hall lunchroom, is the after-school program for Lower School students. Named after the magical world created by author C.S. Lewis, Narnia is a safe environment where students can unwind after a long day, participate in planned activities, and spend time on homework and other quiet activities. The program runs from school dismissal until 6:00 pm. Sessions The single sessions run from 3:15 pm – 4:30 pm or 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm (if arriving after tutoring or an enrichment class). The double session runs from 3:15 pm – 6:00 pm. Schedule • Attendance • Snack (provided by the school) • Outdoor playtime • Homework time (homework is optional on Fridays) • Indoor and outdoor play and special activities Pick Up • Car line ends at 3:30 pm, and students not picked up by 3:30 pm will be signed into Narnia and the appropriate fee will be charged. • Children of parents meeting with a staff member or volunteering at BA may use Narnia on a complimentary basis. Please notify Mara King of your meeting/event so you will not be billed. • Students are expected to be picked up on time. Narnia ends at 6:00 pm. • A late fee of $10/quarter hour will be charged per child for children not picked up by 6:00 pm. • If you are prepaid for the single session and pick-up after 4:30 pm, the additional fee of $10 will be charged. • If you are running later than your usual pick-up time please call Narnia at 262-252-6658 to notify a staff member. 4 Registration • All families planning to use Narnia at any point during the school year need to complete a registration form. • Registration forms and first payments are due by the first day of school. Forms • At the back of this booklet • At brookfieldacademy.org • At the front office of Liberty Hall Advance Payment Plans for Regular Use • If you anticipate using Narnia on a regular basis, you may want to consider signing up for one of the advance payment plans. • Fees can be paid by check or withdrawn directly from your bank account by electronic fund transfer (EFT). • There are significant discounts when using the advance payment plans. • If you are enrolling your child in any of the enrichment activities or he/she plans to participate in a school drama production or athletics, please take into consideration the number of Narnia days that might be missed when making the enrollment and advance (discounted) payment decision. Missed days will not be reimbursed. Making a change to the number of days is allowed only once per year. Half Days • A separate registration form will be provided each half day that occurs throughout the school year. Preregistration is required to ensure adequate staffing. • Special activities will be planned and may include field trips. An additional fee may be charged to help offset these costs. Dependent Care Expenses • Payments for the Narnia Program may be eligible for dependent care expenses. • Parents are advised to review their own employersponsored benefit plan descriptions and enrollment material for specific information or to consult with their personal tax advisor as necessary. Drop-In Use • If you are unsure of when you will need the Narnia Program, we recommend using the drop-in plan, as it allows flexibility for sporadic use, or use in the case of an emergency. • If your child will be attending Narnia, please e-mail or call Mara King as soon as possible. Drop-in use is paid for with tickets purchased from the Lower School Office in advance, or a Narnia staff member on the day of service. Ticket costs are: – $10 single session – $15 double session • Payment is due the day of service. Late payments for which the Business Office must send an invoice will be assessed a processing fee of $10 (first invoice), $20 (second invoice), or $30 (third invoice and all following invoices). • Unused tickets at the end of the school year can be returned to the business office for a full refund if returned before Friday, June 6th. If the minimum is not met, the class will not be held. • Students will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. • To ensure the instructors adequate preparation time, it is important that registration deadlines are followed. • Late registrations are NOT pro-rated. • Registration (with payment) is due prior to the classes’ start date. If not picked up after 10 minutes, students will be signed into the Narnia Program and the appropriate fee will be charged. • First class pick up: Families should park and pick students up inside the building, outside the classroom door. After the first class, pick up location (for example, at the classroom or outside at the driveway) will be determined by each instructor. Cancellations due to severe weather • If school is cancelled, Enrichment classes are also cancelled. • Every attempt will be made to reschedule the class, but this cannot be guaranteed. • The missed class fee is not refundable. Students dropping a class • Students withdrawing from a class before it begins may request a full refund, less a $25 administrative fee. • Refund requests should be directed to Mara King. • No refunds are given once a class begins. Snack during classes • Each instructor has an individual policy, based on the nature of the class and its activities. • If snack time is allowed at the beginning of class, it needs to be sent from home. • Instructors will inform you if there are restrictions, i.e. peanut allergies. Class locations • The course locations are listed in each class description. • If a location is “TBA” (to be announced), you will be notified before the first class is held. • Students should meet outside the door at the designated location, and WAIT QUIETLY until the instructor is ready and invites them into the room. Interested scholars will learn about the technical elements of podcast production, explore examples, and develop ideas for using podcasting in Liberty Hall life. The plan is to begin broadcasting our own program. Students that are interested and work hard may be called upon to assist teachers and other students who want to give podcasting a try. In the Lower School, we are working to develop as many experts as we can. Think about what interests you, what you want to learn more about, what you have a real passion to learn. Narrow down your interest to a very specific topic and then submit your topic of interest to Mrs. Pryor. Spring • Levels 3-5 14 Levels: 3–5 Cost: no fee Subject: anything in which you are interested MUSICAL Enrichment Offerings Brookfield Academy contracts with individual professional musicians and with The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music for extremely qualified instructors for piano and violin. • Half-hour lessons are scheduled beginning at 3:15 p.m., with the exception of early dismissal days when lessons are every half hour beginning at 12:00 noon. • Lessons are held one day a week, each week that Lower School classes are in session, with the exception of the first week of school in September, and the last week of school in May. • Lessons are not held if school is cancelled due to inclement weather. • There are NO make-up lessons available, and missed lessons due to student illness or scheduling conflicts will NOT be refunded. The parent takes an active role in this learning, and sits in on each lesson.
