LOCAL RULES
USGA Rules Govern All Play
1. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 24-2):
a. Surface and sides of paved roads and cart paths.
b. Rock wall on #1 and #10.
c. Metal Control boxes, signs, staked trees and drainage ditches.
d. In addition to stance and swing, relief is granted for any ball that lies within
two club-lengths of a fixed sprinkler head that is within two club-lengths of the
putting green and is on the intended line of play. The ball shall be lifted and
dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay which (a) is not nearer the
hole, (b) avoids such intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on the putting
green. The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.
2. BEAUTIFICATION AREAS (Rule 25-1): (Rock and flower beds defined by
wooden borders). Played as ground under repair with mandatory relief.
3. POWER LINES: If a ball strikes an elevated power line, it MUST be replayed from
as near as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played. No
penalty.
4. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 27): A ball crossing Country Club Drive or Sidney Jones
Drive on holes with out of bounds markings and remaining on or across the
street, even if it comes to rest on the course, is out of bounds. A ball crossing
the maintenance area on 15 or 16 fairways and coming to rest on the course is
in bounds.
5. DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: The use of distance measuring devices,
including GPS-based systems and laser range finders, is allowed. This applies
to devices that measure distance only, not any other conditions that might affect
a players’ play (e.g. wind or gradient).
6. EMBEDDED BALL: USGA suggested local rule: Relief is “through the green.”
7. ANIMAL HOOF DAMAGE: Other than on the Putting Green, damage that is
clearly identifiable as having been caused by animal hoofs is ground under
repair (Rule 25-1). Such damage on the Putting Greens may be repaired (Rule
25-1 does not apply).
8. WINTER RULES: When winter rules are posted, a ball “through the green” may
be lifted, cleaned and placed within 6 inches of its original position, no nearer
the hole, without penalty.
