May 2016 Page 2 In early April an astute neighbor, Scott Shamlin, was out for a morning walk when he discovered the pins connecting "C" dock to the shore had been snapped in two by the high winds! A quick call to Stanley Young, who dropped what he was doing, rushed over, and made emergency repairs (with supervision) prevented further damage! We are so fortunate to have him!!! Page 3 Book Club Please join us Thursday May 19th,10:00 am to discuss our book “Brooklyn” by Colm Toibin. This movie was nominated for Best Picture of 2016 and best actress. Please join us in the interesting conversation we will have upstairs at the clubhouse. This is a wonderful heartwarming story that has a little bit of everything in it: Committed to a quiet life in little Enniscorthy, Ireland, the industrious young Eilis Lacey reluctantly finds herself swept up in an unplanned adventure to America, engineered by the family priest and her glamorous, "ready for life" sister, Rose. Eilis's determination to embrace the spirit of the journey despite her trepidation--especially on behalf of Rose, who has sacrificed her own chance of leaving--makes a bittersweet center for Brooklyn. 6 seater golf cart with flip down cargo area in the back for $4750. They cover the Entrance Gate from 6:00 P.M. until 2:00 A.M., seven days a week. Effective May 1, 2016, their tour will change to 4:00 P.M. until Midnight. If you are having a party with outside guests or expecting late arriving visitors or a delivery, you should feel comfortable with calling the Gate Attendant at 678-617-0107 and providing the names of the individuals that you would like to provide access. You may also drop a note in the mail slot in the inbound doorway of the gatehouse, if the list of names is too long to dictate over a phone. Having the names in advance greatly facilitates the interaction at the gate and provides easy access for your guests. Without advanced notification and if your guests are not known to the Gate Attendants, your guests may be required to use the keypad or phone system on the kiosk at the gate, to contact you for access. The two regular attendants are James Wilson, who works Friday - Tuesday, and Phil Martin, who works on Wednesday and Thursday. James Wilson has made security his career and started his first assignment as a Facility Guard in 1978. He advanced through the ranks and entered management of several Security Companies over the years. In 2014, he joined EKG. James was raised and attended school in Tucker, Georgia. He enjoys being with his family and is extremely proud of his two children and his Grandchildren. His hobbies include gun collecting and reconditioning vintage trucks. Phil grew-up in Miami, Florida and earned a degree in Business Administration from Florida Community College in Jacksonville. Upon graduation he entered the US Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer, 22-years later. He then served 12-years as an Office Manager for a Financial Services Company. Having played many sports while in school, Phil and his wife of 31 years continue to enjoy many outdoor activities, such as boating, waterskiing, hiking and target shooting. After retiring and finding some extra time on his hands, Phil began a security career and was with Pinkerton for about two years before joining EKG, 4- months ago. He enjoys staying in shape and serving his fellow man. The Attendants have received a fairly specific list of their duties and responsibilities and abide by them very closely. If you have a question or a concern with any of the gate procedures, please contact Bob Kelly at [email protected]. Here is a recap of what was done to help keep Harbour Point as the most beautiful community in North Georgia. a. The overgrown Pyracantha thorn bushes, inside and outside the pool fence, were removed and replaced with August Beauty Gardenias. b. The rose bushes inside the pool fence were removed and replaced with Autumn Fire Encore Azaleas. c. The overgrown Loropetalum shrubs on Water Front Drive were cut back to a four foot height. d. The dead or dying Hawthorns in the Peninsular, The Ridge, The Cove, and The Overlook were replaced with Autumn Fire Encore Azaleas. e. A pine island was installed in the area under the Oak trees on Harbour Point Pkwy from the playground to the Pavilion and Autumn Fire Encore Azaleas were planted. f. Autumn Fire Encore Azaleas were planted at The Peninsular Monument. We hope you like and will enjoy the new plants added to these common areas. We selected the Autumn Fire Encore Azaleas because of their brilliant red color and because they bloom throughout the summer. The August Beauty Gardenias are a more friendly plant for the pool area and will provide a sweet aroma during the evening hours. We plan to add some additional upgrades next year to complement this year’s changes. Your HPCA Board Harbour Point
