Aloxime®840

Aloxime®840
Aloxime®840 is a water insoluble phenolic ketoxime with a chemical structure and
descriptive name as shown.
OH
NOH
C
CH 3
C 9H 19
2-Hydroxy-5-nonylacetophenone oxime
Aloxime®840 is a high viscosity liquid product, which has a molecular weight of 277. This
water insoluble chelating reagent has exceptional good solubility in most commercial organic
solvents. Aloxime®840 also has a unique ability to form organically soluble complexes with
wide variety of metallic cations.

CHELATING REACTIONS:
Aloxime®840 will chelate a wide variety of metallic cations. It is a hydrogen ion donor and
consequently its reaction with metallic cations may be compared to an ion exchange resin
system operating on a hydrogen ion cycle. An example of complexation with a metallic
cation is shown by the following equation:
[nRH]org + [M+n]aq

[RnM]org + [nH+]aq

SOLUBILITY
Aloxime®840 has been tested at levels of 5, 10, and 25% (W/V) in the following solvents,
and has been found to be completely miscible in all cases:
Acetone
Toluene
Cyclohexane
Isopropyl Alcohol
Isodecyl Alcohol
Methylene Chloride
Ethanol (abs.)
Kerosene
Hexane
This broad solubility characteristic generally carries over to include the metallic cation
chelates as well.
SUGGESTED USES
