Dear
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
I refer to your e-mail dated 15th February 2012, requesting:
1. “How much did your health board spend upgrading and replacing television sets
during the digital switchover?
2. How many televisions did your authority have to purchase?
3. How were the old televisions disposed of?
4. What is the standard television now used in your hospitals, clinics and other NHS
buildings? How much does it cost and what is the specification inclusive of flat
screen/width and 3D functions?
5. Are there any circumstance where the specification of the television varies. For
example are bigger televisions required for staff rooms or individual Executive
offices?
6. In relation to question 5) if the answer is yes, can you please specify the make,
model and specifications and cost of the most expensive television set.”
I can now respond as follows:
1. “How much did your health board spend upgrading and replacing television
sets during the digital switchover?
In preparation from year 2008 to actual digital switchover in September 2010, NHS
Grampian spent a total of £93,190. This included site surveys; aerial upgrading;
internal work and purchasing of analogue/digital converters.
2. How many televisions did your authority have to purchase?
NHS Grampian did not purchase any televisions in preparation for the digital
switchover.
3. How were the old televisions disposed of?
The old televisions were donated to a charitable organisation. With advance notice
under WEEE Regulations, NHS Grampian’s contracted supplier will uplift an old TV for
disposal when delivering a new unit.
4. What is the standard television now used in your hospitals, clinics and other
NHS buildings? How much does it cost and what is the specification inclusive
of flat screen/width and 3D functions?
NHS Grampian has no standard as such. All TVs are LCD or Plasma Sizes range from
19", 26",32",40",42". Prices range from £138 for a 19” to £420 for a 42”. Some of the
smaller screens have the additional option of a combi dvd player. We do not have any
record of staff procuring TVs with 3D functions.
5. Are there any circumstance where the specification of the television varies.
For example are bigger televisions required for staff rooms or individual
Executive offices?
The product range listed on the response to question 4 covers the vast majority of
requests. Screen size can depend on room size but is not the only factor. Any
additional requests outwith product ranges are not encouraged.
6. In relation to question 5) if the answer is yes, can you please specify the
make, model and specifications and cost of the most expensive television
set.”
Covered in question 4.
