CINEMA NAIRN are a small group of volunteers passionate
about seeing films on the big screen, and who want to
see a full-time cinema return to Nairn. Now in our eighth
year, and with the help of the Nairn Community & Arts
Centre, we have gone from strength to strength. Over
the years our programme of films has been praised for
its eclectic mix of old and new and for introducing the
local community to hidden gems that they might have

Another one of those
little gems that could
have passed you by. Wadjda is a fun loving
10 year-old girl who
is always pushing the
boundaries of what
she can get away
with, thus challenging
deep-rooted Saudi
traditions. After
a fight with her
friend Abdullah, a
neighbourhood boy
she shouldn’t be
playing with, Wadjda
sees a beautiful green
bicycle for sale, and
she sets about finding
ways to buy it. This
is a challenging, yet
lovely and uplifting
film, accessible on all
levels, whether for an
educative experience
or simply to enjoy a
night at the pictures.

otherwise missed. We aim to appeal to a broad spectrum of interests
and will once again show contemporary hits and old black and white
classics, as well as films with a Scottish slant. Add to the mix musicals
and wonderful foreign language films, and we believe that 2017 will be
seen as another great programme of films.
Our normal venue is the Nairn Community & Arts Centre (just off the
A96), and occasionally The Little Theatre in Fishertown.
1969 (15) 110mins
This film has all the
ingredients of a
great night at the
pictures: outlaws,
gunfighters, quickdraws, shoot-outs,
a love story, a
posse chasing
two fabled bank
and train robbers
across mountains
and plains of the
wild west – oh,
and Katharine Ross,
Paul Newman and
Robert Redford. A
classic western
loved by both men
and women (for
obvious reasons!).
1980 (PG) 93mins
Prior to Gregory’s
Girl and Local Hero,
Bill Forsyth gave us
this wonderfully
authentic and funny
view of how four
bored, unemployed
teens in dreary,
rainy Glasgow, rustle
up an idea that just
might change their
luck!
Stainless-steel
sinks, potions
and dressing up
as women follow,
in another warm,
moving and life
affirming comedy
from one of
Scotland’s favourite
directors.
Admission is usually £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for under 18’s. We
also run a loyalty scheme. So pick up your card and get it stamped
each time you come to a film - and you’ll get the sixth film free!
Each year we screen a number ‘Monday Matinees’ to which
people of any age are welcome to join us for a reduced price of
£2.50, and with the added bonus of tea and home bakes, it’s a
great way to spend a Monday afternoon!
