Now in our eighth year, and with the help of the Nairn Community & Arts Centre, we have gone from strength to strength. Over the years our programme of films has been praised for its eclectic mix of old and new and for introducing the local community to hidden gems that they might have with English subtitles Another one of those little gems that could have passed you by. Wadjda is a fun loving 10 year-old girl who is always pushing the boundaries of what she can get away with, thus challenging deep-rooted Saudi traditions. After a fight with her friend Abdullah, a neighbourhood boy she shouldn’t be playing with, Wadjda sees a beautiful green bicycle for sale, and she sets about finding ways to buy it. This is a challenging, yet lovely and uplifting film, accessible on all levels, whether for an educative experience or simply to enjoy a night at the pictures. 2013 (15) 116mins 1953 (U) 120mins subtitled for the hard of hearing A bored and sheltered princess escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome. We aim to appeal to a broad spectrum of interests and will once again show contemporary hits and old black and white classics, as well as films with a Scottish slant. Add to the mix musicals and wonderful foreign language films, and we believe that 2017 will be seen as another great programme of films. Our normal venue is the Nairn Community & Arts Centre (just off the A96), and occasionally The Little Theatre in Fishertown. 1969 (15) 110mins This film has all the ingredients of a great night at the pictures: outlaws, gunfighters, quickdraws, shoot-outs, a love story, a posse chasing two fabled bank and train robbers across mountains and plains of the wild west – oh, and Katharine Ross, Paul Newman and Robert Redford. A classic western loved by both men and women (for obvious reasons!). 1980 (PG) 93mins Prior to Gregory’s Girl and Local Hero, Bill Forsyth gave us this wonderfully authentic and funny view of how four bored, unemployed teens in dreary, rainy Glasgow, rustle up an idea that just might change their luck! Stainless-steel sinks, potions and dressing up as women follow, in another warm, moving and life affirming comedy from one of Scotland’s favourite directors. Each year we screen a number ‘Monday Matinees’ to which people of any age are welcome to join us for a reduced price of £2.50, and with the added bonus of tea and home bakes, it’s a great way to spend a Monday afternoon!
