On behalf of all of us at The Nature Conservancy,
we wish you and yours peace on Earth and many
blessings for the New Year ahead.
Cheers to you!
For the Birds
Birds don’t recognize borders. And those migrating across state boundaries and between the
U.S. and Canada don’t need to thanks to the Migratory Bird Treaty, which is celebrating its 100th
year. In the current edition of the Pennsylvania Chapter newsletter, read stories of how The
Nature Conservancy is advancing the protection of a Globally Important Bird Area – The
Kittatinny Ridge as well as how our very own Land Steward/Fire Specialist/Bog Turtle
Researcher/Naturalist/Photographer/Carpenter (the list goes on and on), George Gress has
made advances in an important bird study in Alaska over the past two years. To read the full

December 2016 Question:
What once covered 14% of the Earth's land
area, but by the early 1990s over half had been
destroyed?
Answer for November Trivia: Protecting one acre of mature
forest from destruction is equivalent to taking 30 cars off the
road for one year.
