Code of Conduct:
An ICOT student is one who:














Is polite and respectful to everyone.
Respects ICOT property and the property of others.
Follows the ICOT dress code
Knows and follows the safety rules:
 In classroom, building, excursions out of ICOT and playground.
 During fire and evacuation drills.
 On bus.
Uses proper and respectful language.
Avoids disrupting class in any way.
Avoids physically or verbally aggressive behaviour in person or online.
Respects authority, i.e. listens to and obey the person in charge.
Does his / her best work at all times.
Completes homework assignments and projects on time.
Is on time for classes.
Is prepared for class with all his or her books and supplies.
Values his or her health and does not use drugs and / or alcohol or cigarettes.
Uses technology in a positive and productive manner.
DEVELOPING A CULTURE OF RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY
ICOT is an educational institution where each boy / girl has the right to learn in an environment
which is safe and caring, among people who are co-operative and supportive.
We believe that developing a culture of respect and responsibility will encourage our boys / girls to
develop self-discipline and a healthy self-image, to respect the rights and feelings of others, and to
take responsibility for their own actions.
These guidelines are intended to assist boys, girls, staff and parents to develop this culture
successfully.
RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All members of the ICOT community have rights, but along with those rights come responsibilities:
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Students will:














know and obey the centre’s rules outlined in the Code of Conduct
be courteous, punctual and learning environment cooperative
respect the ICOT property and other’s property
not disrupt the educational progress
be disciplined in a respectful of others
be responsible for missed work
Strive for his or her personal best
Uniforms must be worn correctly and will be checked by the Head.
Lessons begin with the Teacher greeting the class. Boys / Girls are expected to make eye
contact and greet in return.
Boys / Girls enter the classroom quietly, greet the Teacher and settle as requested.
When a boy / girl interrupts another Teacher’s lesson, he should knock on the door and wait
for an invitation to enter. He /She should make eye contact with the Teacher and greet him
or her politely.
If there is a problem on the playground, boys /girls are to call the teacher on duty.
A very high standard of behaviour is expected from the boys / girls when they are on
excursions. This includes wearing the ICOT uniform with pride.
Boys / Girls are to thank driver as a matter of courtesy, if on bus trips.
STUDENT RIGHTS:

be disciplined in a respectful and humane way
feel secure to report incidents of harassment
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teachers will:







ensure the rights and responsibilities of students
enforce the Code of Conduct
contact parents / guardians when necessary
plan and conduct an appropriate program
establish clear, consistent and fair guidelines for students
communicate clear expectations in terms of evaluation
evaluate in a transparent and fair manner
TEACHER RIGHTS:
Teachers are entitled to:




expect reasonable and appropriate behaviour from students
support from the Administration in the performance of their duties
cooperation and respect from all students in or out of the classroom
consistent bad behaviour will be referred to the ICOT Head.
PARENT / GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Parent / Guardian will:
 take an active interest in their child’s progress and discuss it with him or her
 ensure the punctuality and daily attendance of their child
 collaborate with the school in developing their child’s positive attitudes towards learning
and responsible conduct
 Parents are urged to ensure that boys / girls are wearing the correct uniform both when
they are dropped off at school and fetched in the afternoons.
PARENT / GUARDIAN RIGHTS:
Parent / Guardian are entitled to:
 know the objectives and method of evaluation of the curriculum
 receive regular communications from the school
 confer with teachers and / or administrators regarding their children
UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR:
Bullying is a conscious behaviour which includes physical or verbal attacks on an individual, which
hurts, threatens or frightens him or her. This behaviour is unacceptable at ICOT. Behaviour that is
dangerous to the pupil, to other pupils or to the ICOT property will not be allowed. Behaviour that is
offensive (racially, physically or culturally) or that interferes with the rights of members of the ICOT
community is also unacceptable. Please consult the ICOT Anti-Bullying Policy.
THE SCHOOL RULES:
A set of ten basic ICOT rules have been drawn up by Head and forms the basis of all behaviour in the
school. These rules are presented as a set of statements which the boys / girls must agree to abide
by. The rules are as follows:

Being punctual for all assemblies and lessons.
Ensuring that I am always properly dressed.
Being courteous and showing respect to those I meet by greeting all visitors and parents and
offering assistance should they require it. I will stand up should I be sitting.
Not making excessive noise or running around the ICOT buildings.
Ensuring that my homework (if any on the day) is always completed on time and to the best of my
ability.
Being helpful to boys / girls, being mindful of any form of bullying and reporting any incidents to a
Teacher.
Respecting the ICOT environment and picking up litter.
Objectives of ICOT:








To give our children the basic training they need so that they will grow up to be integrated
and self-reliant people who experience God in their lives. This training is spiritual, moral,
intellectual, emotional, physical and social.
To create in our school a climate of trust and love where each child is valued as an
individual, is helped to develop a sense of his/her own worth and is aware of the
contribution he/she can make to the society in which he/she lives.
To foster loyalty, mutual respect and respect for all mankind.
To foster respect for the environment.
To enable our pupils to become good citizens.
To encourage parents to support the educational efforts of the school and to utilise the
structures offered to ensure positive parental involvement.
To encourage close partnership with parents, pupils, management and teachers to ensure
that ICOT remains faithful to principles of Christian education.
To introduce our pupils to the truth that they may know it, to the good that they may love it
and to the beautiful that they may delight in it.
