Mark off a play area six-foot square with chalk
Evenly divide that square into four squares.
Have a child stand in each square with one child holding the ball.
The one with the ball will bounce the ball once in his square then tap it into another players square.
The player in that square must tap the ball into another players square, after it bounced once into his
square.
If the ball bounces more than once into someone’s square, they are out of the game and either the
square is left empty or you rotate a new player.
If your volley goes out of the play area before bouncing in the grid, you’re out.
If your volley goes into a square where there is no player, you’re also out.
Frisbee Games:
Frisbee H-O-R-S-E
Instead of shooting hoops, use a Frisbee for this game of H-O-R-S-E on PE Central. The first player creates a
challenge, like hitting a target with a Frisbee. If they complete the challenge, everyone must try it. Complete the
task and receive a letter until you spell H-O-R-S-E. Take turns being the challenger.
Frisbee Bowling
This super simple game from Junkyard Sports is easy to play. Line up water bottles for bowling pins and try to
knock them down with the Frisbee.
Tic Tac Toe Frisbee
Take turns throwing a Frisbee onto the board. Then mark the spot with an X or O The first person who lands
three discs in a row, wins! You can also play in teams.
Frisbee Flip
This PE Games activity has kids pairing off and picking "top" or "bottom" of the Frisbee. Flip the disc in the air
as you would a coin -- as soon as it lands, the player whose side is facing up must run to a predetermined
spot. The other player must try to catch them before they reach it.
Throwing Race
Pair off into teams of two in this game. Stand a few feet apart and try to complete as many passes as possible
in two minutes. The team with the most completed passes wins.
Pylons:
Zombie Dodge Ball
In this game of dodge ball, kids will want to avoid touching the ball until it hits the ground. This includes
avoiding catching the ball. If a kid is hit with a ball or catches the ball, they become a Zombie and try to infect
their team mates. The kids who have a zombie on their team can throw the ball at the zombie to return it to the
grave. The opposing team can also hit the zombie to remove it from play. The last team standing is the winner.
Note: When a kid becomes a zombie, they must act like a zombie. This includes the groaning, the slow
movements, etc. The kids must try to make a convincing Zombie – minus the eating of brains.
Protect the Cone:
Materials needed: Pylons/cones/bowling pins, Balls (for large groups at least 4)
Set up a cone/pylon/bowling pin for each of the kids playing the game. The point of this game is to protect your
cone from being knocked over by an opposing player or yourself. The kids are allowed to move around their
cone to protect it. Using the balls, the kids will throw them at the other kid’s cones to try and knock them over.
Depending on the size of the group, you can have only a few people (6) playing at one time, while the others
are in a line on the sidelines. When a cone is knocked over, the kid protecting the cone will go to the back of
the line, and the first person in the line will take their spot in the game. Kids will be able to chase after balls that
are loose; however this will leave their cone unprotected.
Tennis Balls:
D-O-N-K-E-Y
In small groups, one person throws the ball in the air and calls out somebody’s name who then attempts to
catch the ball. If the ball is dropped, the letter “D” is given to the catcher. Bad throws can also result in a letter
being allocated. More mistakes earn the letters O, N, K, E, Y. When you are DONKEY you are out.
Eights:
In small groups (or individually) players must perform an action without making a mistake before moving onto
the next action.
EIGHT: Throw ball in the air and clap eight times before catching the ball.
SEVEN: Throw ball against wall and catch on the full seven times.
SIX: Throw ball against wall and catch on the bounce six times.
FIVE: Throw ball against wall and perform a tuck jump before catching the ball on the full five times.
FOUR: Throw the ball against a wall and as it rebounds pat it against the floor four times.
THREE: Throw ball against a wall, clap your hands in front, then behind, then in front again before catching the
ball three times.
TWO: Throw the ball under your leg against a wall, perform a 360 rotation, then catch it on the full twice.
ONE: Throw the ball against a wall, perform a push up, stand up, then catch the ball on the full.
Hacky Sack:
Hacky sack or footbag is the perfect summer sport to play with a group of friends. In hacky sack, everyone
works towards a common goal, so it's a cooperative sport, not a competitive one. Form a kicking circle and
when everyone touches the hacky sack before it falls, the whole group wins. It's perfect for the theme of
summertime chillaxin'. Bring a hacky sack to the beach, summer parties or to summer camp. Hacky sack is
easy for anyone to play, you can play it anywhere and hacking is a super aerobic workout.
Soccer Ball Games:
SOCCER BOWLING
For this game you'll need discs (or cones). Place a ball on top of a disc, forming a "bowling pin". The object is
to knock the ball off the disc, by making a nice pass accurately aimed.
Set up the game depending upon how many players and extra balls you have. The ideal setup includes teams
of two or three players, with each team having three targets to hit, spaced 3-4 feet apart and about 10-15 feet
away. One player makes a pass towards the pins, fetches the ball, and then passes it back to the next player
who takes a turn. Whichever team knocks down all three "pins" wins.
Use additional cones to mark the starting point. With older players, have them positioned 10-15 yards behind
the starting point. This allows for an even longer pass back, and adds a bit of dribbling up to the starting point.
Variation:
Try glow in the dark bowling. Water bottles with glow stix in them! Easy and fun!
