Literacy: Engage: Fact Files and Explanatory Texts We will look at the text ‘Chewy gooey rumble plop’ and find the meaning of a range of new dental vocabulary. We will make a glossary and research further information before creating a fact file and explanatory text with the information we have researched. Develop: Fantasy Narrative We will research how the digestive system works and Memorable Experiences: Teeth cleaning demonstration – Week 1 Dentist/Doctor visit to school – Date TBC Learning Together - Giganta-gut! Creating a working model of the digestive system- Week 5 (wb 22/5/17) Summer Term 1 Year 4 create a flowchart explaining the different processes that take place. We will then write a story from the viewpoint of a piece of food travelling down the digestive system. We will use Austin’s Butterfly to improve our stories with a learning partner. Innovate: We will be working together to create a large scale working model of the human digestive system that Title: Burps, Bottoms and Bile Other Learning Opportunities: PE and Games: Athletics Maths: We will use shapes to investigate symmetry, tessellations and translations of shapes within a grid. We will tie in the measurement unit of work with our topic as we measure for ingredients. We will explore further problem solving activities and continue to prove our answers using written justifications and show our answers using a range of representations. We will continue to work on our times table facts for multiplication and division and continue to multiply two- and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number. We will continue to develop our mental maths skills in a range of contexts and use problem solving to apply our skills. RE: Tree as a symbol Express: Persuasive Texts We will be researching some of the health problems that face society and explain what could be done to help. We will use newspapers and other sources to find our information before writing a persuasive text to encourage others to be healthy. PSHE/SMSC: Healthy Bodies /Keeping safe outside of school Art and Design: Textiles; Working Model designs Science: We will be identifying different teeth types and their Music: Composing and performing simple function alongside learning about tooth decay and lyrics hygiene. We will be able to describe the simple functions of the digestive system in humans and use scientific evidence to record findings of investigations. Computing: Digital Images; Algorithms Please listen to your child read and encourage them to learn their spellings using taught strategies and practise their times tables every week. Your child will also receive topic based homework with a choice of creative outcomes. In addition maths and literacy work will be sent home to compliment the learning in the classroom. Design Technology: We will be researching and preparing a range of healthy foods across the course of our topic whilst looking at how to have a varied diet. We will also be exploring textiles and how to match materials to purpose. We will work together to create a working model of the digestive system.
