What God Desires for Leaders Sunday a.m. 7/10/2016 We looked last week at what God wants for a nation We are in an election year that I am afraid is being run by social media People of one party attack the candidate of the other party and back and forth People of one party attack their own candidate because their candidate is not receiving the parties backing I am not giving an endorsement of any candidate today I am not going to attack any candidate today The conclusion you come away with today will be just that, your own conclusion I mentioned last week that scripture says nothing about how to vote for a president, a senator, representative, governor, mayor or county and city officials But, scripture does give the principles that God desires in leaders God Desires Judgment and Justice in Leaders Psalm 72:1-2 (NKJV) Give the king Your judgments, O God and Your righteousness to the king’s Son. 2 He will judge Your people with righteousness and Your poor with justice. judgments – the making of decisions that deal with government A leader will judge with righteousness, with moral character, that will then help make just decisions concerning the poor Proverbs 14:34 (NKJV) 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. righteousness - Justice is having an ethical and moral code An unrighteous leader is an abomination to God Proverbs 16:12-13 (NKJV) 12 It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, for a throne is established by righteousness. 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings and they love him who speaks what is right. Proverbs 29:27 (NKJV) An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked. Those that are under leadership should be righteous Proverbs 14:35 (NKJV) The king’s favor is toward a wise servant, but his wrath is against him who causes shame. Proverbs 29:12 (NKJV) If a ruler pays attention to lies, all his servants become wicked. Only God can give true justice Proverbs 29:26 (NKJV) 26 Many seek the ruler’s favor, but justice for man comes from the LORD. Our sinful nature is a deterrent to being a righteous leader Proverbs 28:15-16 (NKJV) 15 Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people.16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days. The result of righteous leaders Proverbs 29:2 NKJV When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. God Desires Wisdom in Leaders Proverbs 8:15-16 (NKJV) 15 By me (wisdom) kings reign and rulers decree justice.16 By me princes rule and nobles, all the judges of the earth. Proverbs 28:15-16 (NKJV) 15 Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people.16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days God Desires Humbleness in Leaders When a leader makes a mistake they need to confess it Admit you made a mistake 2 Chronicles 32:24-26 (NKJV) 24 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death, and he prayed to the Lord; and He spoke to him and gave him a sign. 25 But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up; therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem. 26 Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah. Close The problems of our nation can be summed up in this verse Proverbs 17:15 NKJV He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD. God is in control of a nation’s leader Proverbs 21:1-2 NKJV 1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs the hearts. Where God turns a leader is for His purpose and glory
