& Answ
How can I use my 15 hours?
You can choose how to spread your 15
hours throughout the week. For example,
you can take up to 15 hours for the whole
week or less, or spread them throughout
the year. Your chosen provider will be able
to give you information about whether
they have available places and the hours
they can offer.
How can I choose a childcare provider?
Once eligible, we’ll send you a list of
approved childcare providers to
choose from. You may want to visit
some different providers to see what
they can offer and whether they have
any places available – and to get a feel
for where might be the best fit for your
child. We can’t guarantee you a place
with your preferred provider, but you
should be able to find something to
suit your needs within your local area.
I can look after my child – why should I
consider childcare?
Play and learning in their early years is
important for the healthy
development of your child. Spending
just a few hours a week in a different
environment and with various people
helps your child explore the world
around them and give them a head
start for school.
What if my child is 3 or 4 years old?
All 3 and 4-year olds in England
are entitled to free early education of 15
hours a week. You will need to apply
directly with your childcare provider.
When can my child start?
If eligible, your child’s free place starts depending on their birth date.
If your child’s birthday is between:
Your child starts from:
1 April – 31 August
1 September (Autumn term)
1 September – 31 December
1 January (Spring term)
1 January – 31 March
1 April (Summer term)
