Access to FD connections is unobstructed. (BC Fire Code, Section 2.5) Address posted and visible from the street. (Bylaw 7775) Lockbox installed and easily identified (plastic tag or painted red). (Bylaw 7775) Keys in lockbox must be current for main entry door, roof access, fire alarm control panel, fire safety plan box and service rooms. Contact information must be current. Inform Fire Department if any changes are made (two persons to be on list). (Bylaw 7775) Fire Safety Plan current and available to fire crews (secure safety plan box mounted at main entrance; beside fire alarm or annunciator panel). Copy of emergency procedures posted on each floor area. (Bylaw 7775 and BC Fire Code, Section 2.8.) *Fire Alarm System should be tested daily and monthly by owner or owners authorized representative. Log kept in Fire Safety Plan book. See over *Fire Alarm System tested annually by certified electrician. Documentation is current and kept at building. (BC Fire Code, Section 6.3.) See over Doors (closures) in fire separation are in good condition. Close and latch as required. These doors must be inspected every twenty-four (24) hours to ensure they remain closed. It is the Building Owner or Building Owners Authorized Representative who is responsible for ensuring that the provisions of the BC Fire Code are carried out. Page 1 * Fire Alarm System – Tested to CAN/ULC-S536 Standard (BC Fire Code, Sentence 6.3.1.2.(1) 4.1 DAILY 4.1.1 The following daily inspections shall be conducted to confirm the operability of the fire alarm system: A B Status of the primary and remote trouble signal indicators; and Status of the primary power ‘on’ or equivalent indicator. 4.2 MONTHLY NOTE: The inspection and test requirements in this Subsection may be omitted during the month when the yearly tests required by Section 5, Periodic Inspections and Tests – Yearly, are being performed. 4.2.1 While on the emergency power supply, inspect and test the following to confirm the operability of the fire alarm system. NOTE: It is recommended that tests be coordinated with emergency power generator tests. A One initiating field device or manual pull station shall be operated on a rotational basis and the system inspected for operation as follows: (i) (ii) An alert signal and an alarm signal confirmed on a rotational basis to a minimum of one zone or as may be required by the Fire Safety Plan for the building; The primary annunciator inspected to determine that the tested device annunciated correctly; B Operation of the common audible and visual trouble signals; C Batteries shall be inspected for the following: (i) (ii) (iii) Terminals are clean and lubricated; Terminal clamps are secure; Electrolyte level and specific gravity, where applicable, are as specified by the manufacturer; D One emergency telephone shall be tested on a rotational basis for two-way communication and correct indication at the control unit or transponder, and E Voice paging capability to one zone confirmed on a rotational basis. Fire Alarm Systems – BC Fire Code, Sentence 6.3.1.2.(1) Fire alarm systems shall be inspected and tested in conformance with CAN/ULC-S536, “Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems.” Checklist - Class ‘D’ Occupancy Includes: Buildings or parts of buildings for the transaction of business or the rendering or receiving of professional or personal services Signs are posted on doors used as closures in required fire separation which state “Fire Door Keep Closed”. (BC Fire Code, Section 2.2.) Exit lighting is maintained in working condition. (BC Fire Code, Sub-section 2.7.3.) *Emergency lighting is undamaged and has been tested. Documentation is current and kept at building. Emergency lighting should be tested monthly by owner or owners authorized representative. See over Exit Signs are illuminated. (BC Fire Code, Sub-section 2.7.3.) Exits must remain clear and unobstructed at all times. The exit includes but is not limited to corridors, aisles, stairwells, landings, and the exterior path leading to a public thorough fare. (BC Fire Code, Articles 2.7.1.6. & 2.7.1.7.) Portable Fire Extinguishers are properly mounted. (BC Fire Code, Subsection 2.1.5.) *Portable Fire Extinguishers are tested and tag is current. Portable Fire Extinguishers should be checked monthly by owner or owners authorized representative. See over Elevators must have a sign posted beside each door on each floor indicating that in the event of a fire the elevator is not to be used. Combustible materials must not be allowed to accumulate in Service Rooms. Page 3 Building Owners or Building Owners Authorized Representatives are responsible for ensuring that all Fire Protection Equipment is tested to the standard listed below. They must ensure that companies providing this service are properly trained and qualified. Documentation must be kept on site for a minimum of two (2) years. This documentation must indicate the standard to which the systems have been tested. Portable Extinguishers – BC Fire Code, Sentence 6.2.1.1.(1) Portable extinguishers shall be inspected, tested and maintained in conformance with NFPA 10, “Portable Fire Extinguishers.” Water - Based Fire Protection Systems – BC Fire Code, Sentence 6.4.1.1.(1) Water-based fire protection systems shall be inspected, tested and maintained in conformance with NFPA 25, “Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems.” Emergency Power Systems and Unit Equipment for Emergency Lighting – BC Fire Code, Sentences 6.5.1.1.(1) Except as provided in Articles 6.5.1.2. to 6.5.1.5., emergency power systems shall be inspected, tested and maintained in conformance with CAN/CSA-C282, “Emergency Electrical Power Supply for Buildings.” and 6.5.1.1.(2) An emergency electrical power supply system for emergency equipment for health care facilities shall be inspected, tested and maintained in conformance with CAN/CSAZ32, “Electrical Safety and Essential Electrical Systems in Health Care Facilities.” Special Fire Suppression Systems – BC Fire Code, Sentence 6.6.1.1.(1) A special fire suppression system that meets the description given in any one of the standards referenced in Article 2.1.3.5. shall be tested, inspected and maintained in conformance with the appropriate requirements of that standard.
