NOVICE REDUCTION
FOR SBDM
Novice (noun) — A beginner; one not familiar or
experienced in a particular subject. Source: Wiktionary
It is clearly a literal fact that a chain is
only as strong as its weakest link. The
original version of that idea as a
figurative phrase was established in
Thomas Reid's Essays on the
Intellectual Powers of Man, 1786.
"In every chain of reasoning, the
evidence of the last conclusion can be
no greater than that of the weakest
link of the chain, whatever may be the
strength of the rest."

Throughout schools in Kentucky, the word “novice” is connected to
testing performance or accountability levels. No educator strives
for students to be novice, but in many schools it is expected of
some students. Consider the actual meaning of novice; is it
acceptable for a student to not be familiar or experienced in
reading, math or any subject? If our students are to progress
through their academic careers and eventually be productive
members of society, they simply cannot be inexperienced in skills
and content.
