O Captain

Often times poetic elements work together to help shape the
meaning in a poem. In Whitman’s “O Captain! My Captain!” we
talked about how the poem is an extended metaphor about
Whitman’s admiration for his captain, and we discussed various
techniques Whitman used throughout the poem. Explain how
two of the elements we discussed (repetition, rhyme, point of
view, and/or description) worked together to help readers
understand the extended metaphor in the poem.
