Ryan Childers President 2012-2013
Celebrate Rotary
Number 31 for the Week of February 14, 2013
4-WAY SPEECH CONTEST
Three well prepared Southwest High School students competed in annual Four-Way Test contest.
Judging the very tough competition was a distinguished panel of Rotarians Kris Becker, Gerard
Delany and Edgard Garcia.
Lucas Hitch, a senior and son of our own Neal
Hitch, suggested the Four-Way Test to develop
and test adherence to an inner
code of conduct.
He went on to
demonstrate the
power of adhering to the inner
code he learned
through karate
by breaking a board.
Michelle LaBiancha, a junior, spoke about using the Four-Way test to evaluate how
society treats the elderly.
And, Mayte Salas spoke about using the Four-Way test to inspire personal change
that can lead to community improvement.
After tabulating the results, Lucas Hitch was proclaimed the winner. In addition to the
top prize, Lucas will compete in the regional finals in San Diego on March 12, 2013.
PLEDGE, PRAYER AND SONG
Georgia Libsack
pledged, Todd Evangelist prayed, and
Neal Hitch lead a responding version of
"This Land Is Your Land" …
though a cheat sheet would
have helped him remember
the words…President Ryan
could hardly contain his
laughter.
POT
Christina a first time winner got the $55 pot but the blue
chip evaded her, leaving $684 for another day.
