Origin
This variety was obtained by Mr. Moreau-Robert in the 19th century. Based on genetic analyses carried out in
Montpellier, it comes from the crossbreeding between Chasselas B and Muscat d’Eisenstadt B.
Synonymy
There is no recognized synonym for this variety in France. In the European Union, Muscat Ottonel B can officially be
called by other names: Moscato Ottonel B (Italy), Moschato Samou (Cyprus), Muskat Ottonel (Germany, Austria,
Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia), Ottonel muskotály (Hungary).

In France, Muscat Ottonel B is officially listed in the "Catalogue of Vine Varieties".
This variety is likewise listed in the Catalogues of other European Union member states: Germany, Austria, Bulgaria,
Cyprus, Italy, Hungary, Luxemburg, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Description
Identification signs include:
- the tips of the young shoot have a sparse coat of flat-lying hairs,
- reddish color young leaves,
- shoots with long tendrils and internodes with red stripes,
- orbicular adult leaves, 3 or 5-lobed, with a slightly open or closed petiole sinus, teeth with short or moderate convex
sides compared to width at base; absence of anthocyanin coloration of veins, flat leaf blade, smooth, with a sparse or
moderate coat of upright hairs on the outer veins and on the underside a moderate to dense cover of upright hairs,
- round-shaped berries with muscaté flavor.

Suitability for cultivation and agronomic production
Muscat Ottonel B is an early and weak vine variety, with horizontal growth. Relatively insensitive to chlorosis, it is well
adapted to clay-limestone terroirs. On the other hand, it is sensitive to shot berries.
Sensitivity to diseases and pests
Muscat Ottonel B is sensitive to downy mildew and grey rot.
Technological potential
The grape clusters are small to moderate size and the berries are moderate to large. This variety was good sugar
potential and can produce aromatic dry and liqueur wines.
Clonal selection in France
The only approved Muscat Ottonel B clone carries the number 59.
