Dear Parents and Guardians The picture above shows the extent of the floods around the school, our Queenhill entrance was completely cut off and the water lapped up to our Farm Barn. The Rugby pitches remain flooded and the ground remains wet. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation at the start of half term, with many bridges closed and roads impassible the journey to school for both students and staff and with boarders travelling long distances, the safety of all was paramount in our thoughts. We still have much water around us and the water levels are going down, despite the rain and with the long term weather forecast to improve, we expect the river levels to return to normal. During half term we had have significant work around the school improving security with gates and fencing, improved lighting and significant work on trees. Work progresses in the new Junior School and decorating was carried out in our Junior boarding house recreational areas. We also had a visit from ‘Defra’ to the farm with strong recommendations from them to ensure visitors clean their boots and hands to ensure high standards of hygiene are maintained. New signs and facilities will be in place, all students are encouraged to be involved in some way in the Farm but will need to respect and adhere to the new rules of the Farm. Several new staff have joined the school after half term to support subject areas and the SEN department. Mrs Boakes Miss Reeve-Black Mrs Grant Mr Jackson Ms A Peng Mr Comber Mr Wright Learning Support Music and Learning Support Learning Support Teacher of Geography (Maternity Leave cover) Teacher of EAL Teacher of Chemistry Teacher of Engineering Other staff have taken on tutor & mentoring roles as we wish to keep our tutor and teaching groups small. ALL tutors have e -mail addresses and the use of the student planner is to be encouraged and will be checked regularly and signed by the tutor. If you have any issue please contact the tutor whom will assist you to resolve any issue. The ‘FAB’ Parent association continues to grow in strength, their future meetings will take place at school the second week of each half term, looking at ways to support the school, coordinate social events and create opportunities for students. There contact details can be found on the school website. Due to the cancellation of the Year 9 ‘Parents Evening and Options talk’ this has now been rescheduled for Friday 14th March. The Year 9 parents will meet at 3.30pm at Pull Court for a meeting with Mr Abraham followed by Parents evening with Years 8,10 and 12, which will take place in the Sports Hall. Please follow the directions to park which will be on the hard court near the sports hall. Refreshments will be available in the sports hall. This half term is a busy time with a full calendar of events for both day students and boarders. We would like to offer parents the opportunity to extend the school day by day students joining boarders for breakfast or for them to stay later at school, if this is something you would like to explore please contact the tutor who will make the necessary arrangements. We have two opportunities this half term for parents and prospective parents to look around the school the dates are Tuesday 25th March at 2.00pm and Wednesday 21st May at 10.00am. We will also be inviting parents to join us for lunch on Tuesday 25th March. This will be an RSVP invitation as we will need to know the numbers of parents to cater for. A letter and invitation will follow shortly from the catering manager. Parents will be welcome to stay on after lunch for the Open Afternoon on the same day. Details have been sent to all senior parents by Mr Neethling about a 12 day trip to California in October 2014. Details of the trip can be found on the school website under parental information or by contacting him at school. There are many opportunities for students at Bredon to become involved in clubs, activities a list is published in the school calendar each term and are also available on the website. Our wish is that every child becomes involved and enjoys a variety of experiences especially house events. At the end of term we have the House Shout, every child will be involved and we would encourage parents to come and support the final event of term, details of which Mrs Ferrari will send out by schoolscomms.
