A Note From Gerrit
A Bit of Our History
The Gerrit J. Verburg Company was born in late 70s
in Flint, Michigan. As our company started out, I was
doing it all: branding, purchasing, sales and initially
some of the deliveries. My aspirations - as a Dutch immigrant - of owning a successful confectionery business
in the USA came true thanks to hard and honest work.
I want to emphasize “honest.” Even during my humble
beginnings I refused to sell any of my products to a store
unless it was the right fit, which earned us respect over
the years and was the basis of our success. Our diligent
search for unique items in Europe and finding those loyal US customers for them has been quite a challenge but
at the same time it has been such an awarding process.
1973: Established Stimorol chewing gum in Michigan
1979: Continue to sell chewing gum as part of Gerrit J Verburg Co.
1980: First product under our own brand: MY-T-FRUIT
1985: MY-T-SIREN Short lived national craze. 32 million sold!
1986: Novelties such as Gummi Rats, Dinasaurs and Tarantulas.
1988: Small selection of Dutch Licorices in bulk
1988: Fort Knox Chocolate Coins introduced
1991: Fresch Mints introduced.
1995: Extreme Ice Chewing Gum
1995: Gustaf’s Licorice introduced.

Over the past 15 years we have carefully developed the
brands we carry now: Gustaf’s, Fort Knox, Satellite
Wafers, and Broadway. This year we have rolled out
Pink Cadillacs and Freeway Fruitgummies in a big
way as well!
Although we have expanded and evolved as a company,
our ambition and dedication to the customer as well as
the product have never been higher. Gerrit J. Verburg
Company puts strong emphasis on providing the best
quality confections manufactured in Europe on the
US market.
