Antony, Octavius, and Lepidus meet to discuss who

ACT 4
Antony, Octavius,
and Lepidus
meet to discuss
who should be
killed for their
roles in Caesar’s
assassination.
Lepidus leaves.
Antony and
Octavius discuss
Brutus and
Cassius’ plottings
and growing
army.
Antony questions
Lepidus’ fitness
for leadership
comparing him
to a horse.
Cassius confronts
Brutus. Brutus
says they killed
Caesar to be rid
of corruption,
not to become
corruption
themselves.
Brutus receives
word from a
messenger that
Cassius is
displeased with
him for
condemning
Cassius’ troops
taking bribes.
Brutus apologizes
for being so up
tight; he explains
that Portia (his
wife) has killed
herself by
swallowing hot
coals.
Brutus and
Cassius argue,
almost fight, and
then make up
over a cold one.
Brutus wants to
meet Octavius
and Antony at
Phillipi and battle
there. Cassius
disagrees, but
finally relents.
A messenger
brings word that
Antony and
Octavius have
sentenced 100
senators to
death.
Cassius leaves
Brutus in his tent.
Brutus lays down
to sleep when
the ghost of
Caesar enters.
The ghost says he
will be with him
at Phillipi.
