www.loavesandfishesmn.org ABOUT LOAVES & FISHES Loaves and Fishes’ Minnesota meal program began 34 years ago, in 1982, with one dining site each in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The majority of our sites are located throughout the Twin Cities metro area. We are present in six counties, serving urban, rural, and suburban residents. 460,000+ Meals served in 2015 21 Year-round sites 17 Additional summer sites 10,000+ Volunteers HUNGER IN MINNESOTA 1 in 10 Minnesota households lack access to adequate food. 100 million meals are missed by Minnesotans each year because of need, even when food assistance programs are factored. 92% rise in Suburban poverty within the metro area from 2000 to 2013. 57% eat alone, linked to less nutritious diet and health issues. While the name “Loaves and Fishes” was initially taken from scripture, we are not a religious organization. We serve without regard to religious perspective and do not engage in activities that promote any particular religious cause. Media Coverage SERVICES AND INITIATIVES Our flagship program provides free, nutritious meals at our dining sites (including our “Mobile Meals” food truck). We seek to ensure that every meal we serve meets or exceeds the USDA adult minimum standards for nutrition. Farm for All Loaves & Fishes is growing fresh produce at 4 locations across the Twin Cities. Zero Percent A program dedicated to eliminating excess cafeteria waste. Loaves and Fishes partners with a number of companies, and universities to capture food that otherwise would be tossed out. In partnership with Second Harvest Heartland, we receive pallets of produce every week and distribute it to communities in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Summer Food Service Program Summertime is our busiest season. We open several lunch sites dedicated to feeding children while school is out. CATHY MAES Executive Director Loaves and Fishes welcomed Cathy Maes as its Executive Director in the summer of 2013. Cathy previously served as the Executive Director of the ICA Food Shelf where she expanded services and raised more than nine million dollars during the depths of the recession.
