Our Wellesley League's Spring Events: Learn, read, watch,
listen, mingle, dine, share opinions, and celebrate!
Greetings! Last month was an active one, with a high-caliber
program on income inequality and political participation (see
recording at videos.bentley.edu/?p=539), a book group meeting,
and well-attended town meeting prep sessions. Learn about
forthcoming events below. On behalf of the board, we wish to

Wellesley League
Monday, May 4, 7:30 to 9:00 pm – Reading Group: 13 Days in
September, by Lawrence Wright. Discuss Wright’s 13 Days in
September: Carter, Begin and Sadat at Camp David with fellow League
members. We are sure to have a lively discussion at this final meeting
of our new book group, organized by Joellen Toussaint. Come with
recommendations for the books to be discussed next year! Location:

Friday, May 8, Noon to 2:00 pm – Brown-bag Lunch with your
State Legislators. Representative Alice Peisch, a long-time League
member, and Senator Richard Ross, representing Precincts B, F and G,
will join us to discuss current matters of interest to you and our
League; we are still waiting to hear from Senator Cynthia Creem and
will keep you apprised. Bring your lunch and come for some lively

Thursday, May 14, 12:30 to 2:15 pm – Our May Board Meeting.
Learn more about our League organization by coming to our next board
meeting. Location: Treasurer Jenny Zannetos will host in her home, 6
Monroe Road.
Wednesday, May 20, 6:30 pm – Potluck Dinner and Annual
Meeting.
Come socialize, learn, and vote for new officers and directors at our
annual potluck dinner and final meeting of the League year. Look for a
more formal invitation in your email inbox later this week or next.
Location: Helen Stewart will once again host in her home, 166 Winding
River Road.

Thursday, April 16, 9:00 to 11:00 am -- Special 2-hour workshop
on RDF issues. Come to a special workshop on recycling, the first step
in a collaborative process to identify initiatives to further improve
Wellesley’s solid waste management, called GARBOLOGY 101: Talking
Trash with the Wellesley Recycling and Disposal Facility. Sponsored by
the Department of Public Works, Natural Resources Commission, and
Sustainable Energy Committee. For questions, contact

Tuesday, April 28, 7:00 to 9:00 pm – Award-winning documentary
“Bag It: Is Your Life Too Plastic?” Come join fellow Wellesley
residents for the screening of this intriguing film on the effects of
plastic consumer merchandise on land ecosystems, the marine
environment and the human body. Sponsored by Sustainable Wellesley.
Location: Wakelin Room, Wellesley Free Library.
State League
Tuesday, April 28, 10:00 am – Day on the Hill, featuring State
Senate President Stanley Rosenberg. Hear Senator Rosenberg, newly
elected President of the State Senate, and the State League’s
legislative experts at its annual Day on the Hill program. Location:
Gardner Auditorium, State House, One Beacon Street. For details and

On or before Thursday, April 30 – Mother’s Day Card program.
For a $25 donation, the State League’s Citizen Education Fund will
send a beautiful Mother’s Day card on your behalf to a mother or
other relative and let her know that a donation to the League has been
made in her name. “Recognize a mother, grandmother, sister, daughter,
aunt, niece, cousin, friend…or anyone else! Donations will support voter

Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16 – State Convention:
“Women Leading the Way.” You are warmly encouraged to attend all
or a portion of the State League’s biannual convention. Keynote
speakers will include Rosalee Keech, the League’s United Nations
observer (whose blog report we included in last month’s Newsletter),
and Elizabeth Barajas-Román, CEO of the Women’s Fund of Western
Massachusetts. Location: Clarion Hotel, West Springfield.
