LEIPZIGER STÄDTISCHE BIBLIOTHEKEN Welcome to Leipzig Public Libraries! What can I do with a library card? With your library card you can browse and borrow items from our collection of books and magazines, movies, and music at all of our 16 branches and in our mobile library, as well as download eBooks and digital magazines, and search in online-databases. Free internet and WiFi access is also available. How do I get a library card? To apply for or renew a library card, you will need to bring your valid German personal ID or passport plus a current German address registration to one of our branches. The address registration is a written confirmation that you got when you registered your address in Germany, called „Meldebescheinigung“. If you are under 19 years old, we need the application form to be signed by your parents or guardian and you will also need your parents or guardians identification documents in order to register. ! Individuals age 19 and older may also register online for a electronic library card, which can be used to borrow eMedia (e.g. eBooks). How much does it cost to join the library? Children and youth to the age of 19 are free. For adults, membership is €16 for twelve months or €10 for six months (50 % off for LeipzigPass holders) Please purchase a day ticket (€5) to borrow items from our special collections for use in the reading room. www.stadtbibl iothek.leipzig.de www.facebook.com/stadtbibl iothek.leipzig For how long can I borrow materials? Books, teaching materials, music scores, games: 4 weeks Magazines, DVDs, videos, CDs, CD-ROMs: 1 week Artworks: 12 weeks Items you borrowed may be renewed up to three times, as long as no one else has placed a hold on it. You may renew the items online (www.stadtbibliothek.leipzig.de) or at your local branch. ! If you have registered your e-mail address, you will receive an e-mail reminder before the items are due. Does the library charge any other fines? Fines for overdue materials: Adults € 0.40 per day and item Children and youths € 0.20 per day and item Fines for lost or stolen library card If your card has been lost or stolen, please contact us immediately by phone (0341 / 123 5341) or in person. To get a new card, you will need to bring your ID or passport on your next visit to the library and pay the replacement card charge of € 5 for adults or € 2.50 for children and youth. Charge for placing holds To place holds, there will be a charge of €1 per item. Fines for lost or damaged items If you lose or damage an item you will have to buy a replacement copy or you will have to pay the purchase price of the item. Please contact your librarian!
