PRS PTO Get Smart About Art Second Grade Pollock Project – Class Abstract Mural Supplies: disposable plastic drop cloth to protect back of canvas Duck cloth canvas Paints – blue, red, yellow, orange Buckets – 4 per class Paint sticks – one per bucket The children will be creating group murals similar to Pollock’s famous work by splattering paint onto the duck cloth. This will be done outside. 1. Lay the drop cloth on the ground (place rocks at the corners to hold it in place). 2. Place the duck cloth over the drop cloth. 3. Put a bucket of paint at each corner, with a stick inside. 4. Divide the class into four groups, one at each corner. 5. The first child in each line with take the stick and flick it twice onto the canvas, and then go to the back of the line and sit down. 6. When all are sitting you know that line is done. 7. When each line is done, rotate the paint buckets so that a new color is in front of each line. 8. Repeat until all have done each color. When the canvases are dry, Get Smart About Art volunteers will come in and cut them into squares that can then be stapled into each child’s booklet. 3/11/14
