On the new 1.2 million SF Center
for Care and Discovery, located
in a tight urban site on Chicago’s
south side, Gilbane’s relationship
with the local trade contractor
market was critical to the project’s
success. Once retained, Gilbane
mobilized contractor interest in a
busy marketplace. In addition, this
project had a strict 35 percent
MBE and 5 percent WBE goal.
Through outreach efforts
Gilbane achieved the requested
requirements, surpassing the
University’s goal and achieving
an overall 48.25 percent
participation, as well as
extensive local community
involvement. In fact, the project
team achieved a 30% local
residency goal, which highlights
the importance community
involvement on the project.
