A program with the SINGLE PURPOSE of helping families and friends of alcoholics, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not. AL-ANON is not: INTENDED for families of drug abusers or individuals with other difficulties unless there is a problem of alcoholism as well. ALLIED with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization or institution. “The relatives of alcoholics, when gathered together for mutual aid, may call themselves an Al-Anon Family Group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.” INVOLVED in any outside issues—neither endorses nor opposes any cause.
