WEW 16 April Hi Ladies.. For many years the engraver had only to look at the previous year to check on the spelling of the Ellis Cup winners - Rachel Heatley and Judy Hannan. However, a prior appointment by part of that team meant that there would be a changing of the guards. It's a marathon NOT a sprint. Numerous teams put in impressive 1st round scores, only to be undone in the afternoon. Many became members of the 'tap in club', others were in awe of their partners talent, but many asked the question "what am I doing here??" With the lengthening of the late afternoon shadows, anticipation grew as to which team had 'tamed' the course. This year, the newly crowned winners of the Ellis Cup politely referred to the good weather and thanked all the teams. However, those comments belie the manner in which they won. Three balls into the 'drink' did not stop the rampaging efforts of Wendy Shuttleworth and Janet Chambers - clear winners with 136 points. The runners up were relieved to hear their names, meaning their aching feet and weary eyes were not in vain - Elsie Walter and Phyl Meti with 139 points. Announcements were made for the two's and it just looked like EVERYONE was up there and I couldn't quite capture all the names. Congratulations to all our ladies, it was a tough day at the office. WEW Trophy & Walter Cup. Thankyou to those who have completed their 2nd round matches. It was literally 4 inches that kept Jill Meadows from forcing Judy Hannan to the 19th hole. 'hey Jill.. it was a good comeback!!' Just as a reminder, get in touch with your opponent and make a date. The 3rd round is underway and all games need to be finished by May 13th. (first match so far: Rae Riggir defeated Wendy Shuttleworth on the 16th) You may play your match on a Saturday if it suits you both BUT you cannot also participate in any other competition on the day. Plus matches are played at the back of the field, so the pro-shop needs to be notified in advance.
