• 20 pinnies, 30 soccer balls (Reynolds).
Objectives: To improve the grade 10’s game performance in soccer using progressive complex
games with skill practice and strategic drills. Refine students’ ability to read and move tactically in
the game. Improve ability to pass and control a soccer ball using applying simple cues.
Develop the university students’ ability to: (1) assess using the GPAI form, (2) give tactical
feedback and note students progress, and (3) to see a TGFU lesson and connect to own practice.
Shane leads activity
Hopper matches students up with
Uvic students.
Introductory Activity – Simple Game (Command Style)
• Two smaller spaces with 15 students in each grid.
• Challenge – reduced as play – (Exaggerate ball control by reducing space)
Aim: Not lose your lives
Strategic focus: Keep control of ball in limited space (finding space)
1. Lose life if ball stops moving unless a body part called
2. Lose life if lose control of ball (outside of space, touch another persons ball)
3. Lose life if you touch another player at any time.
Extension: STOP UVIC FROM SCORING!!! Add 2 Uvic players per square to use their soccer
ball to kick other students soccer balls outside of playing area, add extra Uvic players (4 maximum
per square).
- Problem Solving What do you do in order to be successful at this game?
• Look up, see spaces, keep ball close to body, be aware of other player’s movements, use
both sides of feet, and keep a wide base. - BASE
Hopper Assigns students with
each other (call everyone in).

• Extend: Pass to open pylon and move to open pylon (student with ball calls name out who
moves to open pylon to receive the ball, the person who just passed then moves to the new
open pylon created by the person who just moved).
• Can extend with passive defender.
Note: Uvic Coaches are carrying extra ball to allow for pairs to work on the pass and trap who are
NOT ready for the above grid work.
