John of Rolleston Foundation News Thursday 30th June 2016 Issue 37 (week B) Teaching and Learning This Week This week the teaching and learning has focused on ‘People who help us stay well’. The children have thought about how doctors, opticians and dentists help us, written about what a doctor carries in their bag and why, made a Tooth Fairy pouch and written a story featuring a Tooth Fairy. The children have painted what they imagine the Tooth Fairy Looks like and have engaged in role play opportunities. They have also had the opportunity to engage within other ‘People who help us stay well’ themed learning activities. Ideas for learning at home * Read and discuss stories that feature characters going to the doctors, dentists or opticians. Letters and sounds Mrs Cheshire: They have been taught how to read and write CVCC words i.e. tent or bend & CCVC words i.e. trip or skip as part of a sentence and the tricky words said & so. The have also started to focus on two syllable words i.e. treetop & windmill and words with adjacent consonants Mrs Jones: The children have revisited or as in corn, ur as in fur, ow as in cow & oi as in boil. Mrs Clover: This week we have re-visited the digraphs taught to far and focused on reading and writing these in words and then sentences. These include: ai, ee, oa, oo, oo, ar, or, ur. Show and Tell Children with the surname A to H (RC) and A to N (LJJ) are invited to show and tell tomorrow, Friday 1st July 2016. The theme for this ‘Show and Tell’ is ‘bring in an object/toy/picture etc of your choice.’ Children with the surname I to Z (RC) and O to Z (LJJ) are invited to show and tell on Friday 15th July 2016. There will be no ‘Show and Tell’ after these dates. Learning Journeys Throughout the year we have recorded your child’s highlights and achievements in their learning journey. We would like to invite you into school on Tuesday 19th July between 3.30 pm and 4.15 pm for your child to share this document with you. This will take place in the Foundation Stage classrooms. Number Groups Miss Johnson: This week the children have been learning to name and describe 3D shapes by their faces and edges. The children have learnt that a face is the flat side of a 3D shape and an edge joins two faces together. For example, the children have named a cube and discussed how it has 6 faces and 12 edges. Mrs Clover: This week the children have learnt to name 3D shapes and use everyday words to describe them. For example, the children have named a cone and discussed how it has one circular face and one curved face. Mrs Jones: This week the children have learnt to name 3D shapes and use everyday words to describe them. For example, the children have named a cone and discussed how it has one circular face and one curved face. Mrs Cheshire: This week the children have learnt to use everyday words to describe them. For example, the children have discussed how a cone has one circular face and one curved face.
