Group Scripture and Mosaic Instructions

GROUP SCRIPTURE AND MOSAIC
Having all materials in packets ready to pass out quickly will allow participants to spend their time reading and
discussing the scripture as they work, rather than having to organize.
Get PREAPPROVAL for all materials, time, tables, how many people can work together.
MATERIALS: Bibles or copies of verse for each table with instructions, poster board background, water-based markers,
glue sticks, paint color chips, baggies, folders, painters tape
PURPOSE OF PROJECT:
1. To create a group art piece incorporating scripture that will culminate in being displayed in a worship space.
2. To provide an activity that people with little artistic ability or interest might enjoy and a scripture that can be
discussed in a small group environment.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Please pray before each preparation time working on the project.
2. Find a verse that has visual imagery.
Example: Psalm 1
1
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
3. Decide on images. Pictures of trees bearing fruit with water at roots.
4. Decide the background color of your entire group mosaic. Use pictures with colors that stand out from the
background. (Dark blue)
5. Decide size of finished mosaic and how you will group people to work on project.
Consider:
Number of people: This project was for 80 people in 2 groups of 40. Divide into Group 1 & 2. Group 1 started with Life
Maps Project and Group 2 started with the Mosaic. 4 people per table.
Time: Probably limited time (3 hrs) which includes a “reflection” time. Each person had 1 hour for each project.
Number of Tables for Mosaic: 10-12 tables. 8 tables for mosaic work. 2 tables for scripture. 2 tables to assemble mosaic.
(Facility did not allow assembly on the floor.)
Where and How the mosaic is to be placed: Get facility preapproval for size and tape on walls.

1
6. Paint color chips corresponding to picture in baggies.
Example: Baggie for the top part of the picture will contain yellow/gold, green and red paint chips. Baggie for
the bottom part of the picture will have brown, green, yellow/gold, blue, red. It will also have the unique blue
used for the “stream”.
7. Outline picture being used onto poster board.
Trace the picture onto white paper and then use the end of an ink pen to press the outline onto poster board.
The outlined picture is what the participant will use for the mosaic.
8. Choose the font style and size of letters. (Salterio font)
9. Print and cut scripture words from cardstock.
10. Place cut out words on poster board, spacing them to fit.
11. Outline the beginning and end letters of each word on the large poster.
This makes it easy for the scripture to be glued down quickly.
12. Participants use water-based markers to color the scripture words.
13. Assemble. Have fun! The participants are adults and they’ll figure it out!
