Hosanna! Hosanna! - Church of St. Peter

4th Grade
. . . A weekly report
Friday, March 22nd, 2013
Spring is here! Yeah! We know, however, the true joy of
spring will not come until Easter Sunday is upon us and Jesus
has risen! (Easter is not too far away!)
Third quarter officially ends today. Report cards will be sent home next Wednesday,
March 27th.
The Iowa Basics Skills Tests will be given during the weeks of April 2nd-12th. Please try
to have your child present in school for all of the test days. Making up the tests can be difficult
finding the needed time frames and persons to administer the tests. Thank you.
Congratulations to Ryan for guessing the closest amount of rice bowl money brought in
by the participating students of J.I.! He guessed $312 and the actual amount without going over
was $316+. He received $25 from the student council.
Hosanna! Hosanna!

RELIGION/www.WEBELIEVEweb.com – Our study of the seventh Commandment, “You
shall not steal” ended this week. The class discussions have focused on God’s creation and how,
as stewards, we are to care for the gifts we have been given by God. Other generations will
come after us when we leave this earth and we need to make sure that it is the way it was given
to us, if not better. When we do not act as stewards of God’s creation, we are breaking the 7th
Commandment. Also, we are called to make sure the needs of all people are met. As disciples,
we share in Jesus’ concern for others. In this way, we follow the seventh commandment too. By
performing Works of Mercy, we can be sure to help all of God’s people have what is rightfully
theirs.
READING –The listening/reading of Charlotte’s Web began this week. After the author, E.B.
White reads each chapter to us, we discuss the happenings, vocabulary, and thoughts about each
chapter. I hope your child is enjoying this classic novel.
ENGLISH – The study of adjectives continues. Lessons this week were about proper adjectives,
such as Irish meatballs or German potatoes, and the articles, a, an, and the, which point out
nouns. In some cases it was difficult for students to think of what the proper adjectives would be
if they were given the proper noun like in Peru live Peruvian people, or in Greece you have a
Greek cuisine.☺
SPELLING – You will find the Unit 26 test, taken last Friday, in the Friday Folder. Please sign
the test and return it on Monday.

MATH –The results from your child’s Test 14 math test are in today’s folder. Please sign and
return on Monday. Test 15 was taken on Tuesday. Students will make corrections to this test
and it will be sent home next week. They are hopefully getting the hang of multiplying two twodigit numbers. It can seem tricky at first until you practice and master the technique. Other
concepts we have been working on are solving word problems that involve division with
remainders and discovering how mixed numbers and improper fractions work.
SOCIAL/www.macmillanmh.com- We successfully made our way through the study of all five
regions of the United States, some more in depth than others but we did it! You will continue to
see social studies papers come home as they are graded and returned.
SCIENCE/www.macmillanmh.com – We will begin the fourth quarter studying the Solar
System.
