Appendix A
District 27 Awards
1. The Awards listed below have been Approved by the Planning Committee and
adopted by the Conference as the official awards presented by District 27.
2. Permanent Objects are plaques, cups, or the like which are maintained as district
property with appropriate inscriptions. They will be kept by the recipient and returned
to the District Commander sufficiently prior to the next time of award to permit new inscriptions, as determined by the Commander or his designee. The Awarded Object is a
plaque, cup, certificate or the like, appropriately inscribed, that is kept permanently by
the recipient.

(2) The total points earned shall be divided by the number of eligible members of the
squadron as of the last day of the educational year, to produce a score, which shall determine first and second place.
b. “Eligible members” include all active members in good standing other than
Family members and Senior Navigators who have earned that grade in prior years (and
thus have no courses to take).
c. “Completion” is determined by USPS “date of qualification.”
d. If a member takes a course with another squadron, both squadrons may count the
points.
e. A squadron does not earn points solely for administering an examination.

An alabaster statuette of Prince Henry the Navigator, donated by the country of
Portugal. The squadron’s name and the year of the award is engraved on a brass
plate affixed to the base of the statuette. Housed in a wooden box on wheels.

CRITERIA:
Achievement of a squadron goal (percentage) based on the following factors:
a. Percentage of squadron members making up the total membership of the district at the
beginning of the year. (Squadron members/district members = squadron percentage.)
b. Percentage of squadron NOS credits making up the total District 27 credits for the previous year. (Squadron credits / district credits = squadron percentage.)
c. Percentage of squadron members making up the District 27 participation total. (Squadron participation / district participation = squadron members percentage.)
d. Average of a, b, and c to produce an “average percentage”.
e. Multiply the District 27 NOS credits by the average percentage to determine “squadron
percentage.”
f. Add 10% to the “squadron percentage” to determine a “base squadron goal.”
g. Adjust the “base squadron goal” by the following travel factors (the shortest reasonable
mileage from the home base of each squadron to the most likely point of operation in
its assigned area for the current year);
(1) 0—100 miles: +10%
(2) 100-150 miles : 0%
(3) 151 or more miles: -10%
(a) Determine the squadron with the best performance record by comparing NOS credits
received with the established squadron goal. To qualify for the award, a squadron must
have earned a place on the NOS Honor Roll.
