The Hunger Games
“The Hunger Games” is based in the ruins of North America, which is
now called Panem. Panem is split up into 12 ‘districts’ and ‘The
Capital’
There were originally 13 districts but to show the districts that they
(the Capital) were stronger than them, they bombed district 13.
District Jobs
Each district has a certain job to do. They export everything they
make to the capital. These are the district jobs:
District 1: Luxury Items for the Capital
District 2: Stone Quarries
District 3: Electronics
District 4: Fishing
District 5: Power
District 6: Transportation
District 7: Lumber
District 8: Textiles (Fabrics/ making clothes)
District 9: Farming
District 10: Livestock
District 11: Agriculture
District 12: Coal mining
District 13: Graphite mining
The Games
The capital makes each district give up one boy and one girl between
the ages of 12 and 18. This is known as the reaping. The ‘Tributes’
are put into an arena where they fight to the death in front of the
country for their enjoyment. The games usually last around two
weeks.
The Train
The train takes the tributes from the districts to the capital. The train
is a luxury to people in most districts, who live in poverty and
hunger. It has all the food they can imagine. It travels at over 200
mph. It takes around two days to get from district 12 to the capital
on the train.

Katniss’ time in the arena
Katniss is a 16 year old girl from district 12. On the day of the
‘Reaping’ when Katniss’ sister name gets pulled out at the ‘Reaping’
she volunteers as tribute. Her and Peeta Mellark, are whisked off to
the capital to be prepared for the ‘Games.’ They have interviews and
training but on her day of private training she gets mad and shoots
an apple at the gamemakers (The group of people who control
everything that happens in the arena) they give her a score of 11,
making her a big threat. In the interviews when Peeta goes on after
her, he says he’s in love with her, making them the ‘Star-Crossed
Lovers from District 12.’
When the day comes for them to go to the arena, Peeta and Katniss
get ready, but once in the arena Katniss finds out Peeta is with the
Careers (The tributes from district 1, 2 and 4) and they are trying to
hunt her down.
One day, while in the arena, Claudius Templesmith makes an
announcement, saying that both tributes from a district can win.
Katniss goes on a search for Peeta, finding him injured next to a
river, and nurses him back to help, while playing up the ‘StarCrossed Lovers’
They make it into the final three, and after killing Cato, find out that
only one of them can actually win. Katniss pulls out a poisonous
berry called ‘Nightlock’ and they both are about to eat them, when
another announcement is made saying that they win as long as they
don’t eat the berries.
President Snow is angry at them and makes sure Katniss plays up the
‘Star-Crossed Lovers’ to stop an uprising in the districts.
