Depart with our guide and begin the day with visits to a unique mansion home; each example presenting their own arts, culture, and personality: (1) Hillwood Museum and Estate housing the largest collection of the Russian Czars outside of Russia; (2) Dumbarton Oaks Mansion/Museum and Gardens. This Georgetown mansion is a museum and library for Byzantine studies and botanical history; (3) Tudor Place, the Georgetown mansion and National History Landmark was the home of Martha Custis Peter, granddaughter of Martha Washington; (4) The Anderson House was the winter residence of Larz Anderson, an American diplomat to Japan, and his wife; (5) Christian Heurich Mansion. This 1894 mansion is an excellent representation of the merchant class homes of the late 19th-century and features a magnificent Victorian parlor; (6) Gunston Hall, the plantation and home of George Mason, author of the Bill of Rights, Statesman and Political thinker; (7) Carlyle House and Historic Park. This is the home of John Carlyle, a Scottish merchant who was one of Alexandria’s founders; (8) The Kreeger Museum showcasing the art collection of Carmen and the late David Kreeger; (9) President Lincoln’s Cottage, the Washington DC summer home of the Lincoln family while Lincoln was president; or (10) the Clara Barton National Historic Site, first used as a Red Cross warehouse and later modified for her living quarters. In the afternoon, we’ll also stop at the National Portrait Gallery and see the Hall of Presidents. During the day our guide will include many DC sites, memorials, and monuments. Dinner is included in a historic mansion in Washington DC. A tour of the mansion is included. Depart and continue with an Illuminated Monument Driving Tour of the city’s famous memorials, buildings, and monuments, before returning to the hotel for the night. B,D Day Three, Saturday After breakfast at the hotel depart with our guide and enjoy a Private Group Tour of an Embassy before they open to the public. Welcome to the Embassy Open Houses Tour! This morning, you will have a choice of visiting one of these beautiful historic homes and gardens: (1) Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington; (2) Gunston Hall, the plantation home of George Mason, author of the Bill of Rights; or (3) Woodlawn Plantation, the estate George Washington gave to his adopted daughter and her husband. This afternoon enjoy free time visiting your choice of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution on the National Mall. Dinner is another MARS EXCLUSIVE!
