Ohio weather is a crazy thing. You never know from year to year just what to expect.
About this time last year we were experiencing temperatures in the single digits. This year the
temperature is pushing 70 degrees. Just the other day I was grilling out and wearing short
sleeves...in February! I am sure we will get one more blast of winter, but Spring is on the way.
Seasons always come and go. And yet there is something incredibly healthy and
necessary about the changing of the seasons. Sometimes it’s hard to see Summer fade, and yet
Fall and Winter are necessary for the natural cycle to bring forth new life in the Spring.
Everything has its season.
By now you likely have heard that my family is in a transition to a new season...and so is
our church. Much like the waning days of Summer I am filled with mixed emotions. The past
seven years have been the best of my life. God has been so good and I am filled with
thanksgiving for all that God has done in our community and church during this season.
Although I am not born and raised in Mercer County, this has become home for us. We have
experienced tremendous love in this place, surrounded by wonderful friends and church family.
And yet like most things in life, every season comes to an end. I did not plan on this season
changing so soon, but only the Lord knows the full plan He has for us. It’s not bad, but it can be
hard.
The thing that gives me tremendous hope and confidence for my family and for our
Grand Lake church is the faithfulness of our God. The same God who brings new life each
Spring out of the deadness of Winter is the same God who will use this transition to bring new
life and fruit here in Mercer County as well. Things will not be the same with new leadership, and
things will not be the same for my family, but it will be good!
More and more what I am learning through all of this is to trust the Lord. When God calls
we must be obedient...even if it’s hard...even if it’s not exactly what we had planned. The Bible is
full of stories of curveballs and changed plans. And yet when people choose to trust God and be
obedient to his plan, it always ends up good in the end. That’s what my family and I are trying to
do right now. And that’s what I want to encourage you to do as a church.
There are so many people who still need to hear about Jesus. Our world is hurting and
broken. Our nation is lost in so many ways. God has plenty of missionaries planted about our
communities...the only question is whether or not we will be obedient to his call. Comfort and
security have never been hallmarks of the Christian life. It’s time for our country to get radical
again about Jesus.
As we enter this season of transition together, let’s commit to two basic things: to pray
and to trust the Lord. When all else is stripped away, when the seasons of life change, when life
is hard or unpredictable...those two things will keep us exactly where we need to be. God has
promised to never leave us or forsake us. Let’s pray and trust like we actually believe that.
I don’t want to spend the next four months dwelling on this change, but rather just
enjoying ministry together and moving forward in our vision to spread real hope for real life in
Jesus Christ across the Grand Lake region. There is still much work to do! So let’s get at it!
Also, if you want to follow along with my family’s journey into missionary life, you can
follow my blog at www.mattreynolds.me. I will try to post periodically in the months to come
about this new journey so you can join us in praying for our nation.

Next Meeting - Thursday, March 9th at 1:00pm
The March 9th meeting of the Grand Lake UMW will meet at 1:00pm at the St. Paul's campus in the
church lounge. Our topic is "A Purpose Filled Community." Our guest speaker is Pastor Matt Reynolds
who will share information on "Revive Ohio". Our scripture is John 14:18-26. This is also our Pledge
service. This special service is to ask all of our United Methodist Women for donations to support our
district (Northwest Plains) to be used for local, national, and international missions. One of these
missions is Mission U, which is a seminar to learn more about the missions of the UMW. This is held at
Ohio Northern University. Some of our women have attended the day sampler program. We learned
about women in other countries and how our money helps them. Please join us as you are very welcome.
C.A.L.L. Donations
C.A.N. Sunday (Caring About Neighbors) at St. Paul’s is March 5. Please
place items in the containers in the Lobby.
Montezuma is collecting shampoo for C.A.L.L. in March and deodorant in
April.
Harvest Table Donations
On the third Sunday of each month, we will collect the following items for Harvest
Table, the free Saturday morning meal offered weekly in St. Paul’s Fellowship
Hall. They could use cake mixes, brownie mixes, cookies, icing, noodles, instant
potatoes, flour, sugar, salt, divided plates, napkins and plastic silverware. At
St. Paul's the bins will be in the lower lobby and at Montezuma the collection box
will be in the Commons. March 19 is the next Sunday for this collection. If
everyone pitches in, we can continue to support this worthwhile mission!
Harvest Table extends thanks and appreciation for those who have continued to support the
ministry by money, food, or time. If you have expressed interest in serving and haven't been
contacted by email or phone, please call the church office and we will get back with you. We
also continue to serve C.A.L.L. Cafe the third Tuesday every other month.

Emmaus
The WALK to Emmaus is a retreat experience that is a 72-hour short course in Christianity,
comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, disciplines of
Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the Church. The course is wrapped in prayer
and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. This
weekend is an opportunity to experience renewal and growth in your spiritual life in ways that
you can’t even anticipate. For more information, contact Sandy Huckemeyer, 419-953-4057.
