RAMADAAN AND EID UL FITR Ramadaan and Fasting During fast Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn to dusk. Muslims during fast are also expected to stay away from fighting, gossip, telling lies and misbehaving. What Muslims do during Ramadaan? Muslims get up in the later part of the night and offer their prayers called ‘Tahajjud’. Muslims then eat their pre-dawn meal called ‘Suhoor’. Suhoor is eaten before the first daily prayer called ‘Fajr’. The fasts starts from here. Muslims pray 5 times a day. It teaches discipline and to overcome laziness. Muslims do “ WUDHU ” before every prayer. That means they wash their hands, mouth, nose, ears, face, arms, head and feet. Praying together teaches equality and brotherhood. • Muslims read the Holy Quran every day in the month of Ramadaan. •Holy Quran is in Arabic language. •Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad PBUH in the month of Ramadan that's why Muslims read Quran more often during Ramadan. When do Muslims break their fasts? Muslims break their fast with the sunset prayer called ‘Maghrib’. The first thing they eat is dates. Muslims are advised to eat healthy and in moderation. Fasting in Ramadaan helps Muslims to: Improve the health of the body, clears the mind and soul. learn self control, patience and discipline. care and understand the pain of a poor and hungry person. give up bad habits and replace them with good ones. EID-UL-FITR • It is a festival which is celebrated after the month of fasting. • . Muslims celebrate Eid to thank God for having given them strength to observe fast and obey God’s commandments during the holy month of Ramadaan. On Eid Day Muslims put on their new clothes before offering Eid prayer. Muslims girls and women put Henna on their hands and wear pretty dresses. They also wear beautiful colourful bangles and shoes Muslims then go to the Mosque, offer Eid Prayers and then listen to the Eid sermon. 1 2 3 After offering the prayers in the mosque Muslims greet each other with “Eid Mubarak”. Muslims also give charity on Eid to the poor and needy so they can also enjoy the celebrations of Eid. On Eid day Muslims meet their relatives and friends, eat special meals and exchange Eid gifts with each other. Thank you!
