Meyer Sound LEO-M FAQs What are the components in a LEO array system? The primary component is the LEO-M advanced linear array loudspeaker, designed for long-throw applications. LEO arrays are augmented with the 1100-LFC low-frequency control element for low end content. LEO systems are driven by the Galileo Callisto array processor, which provides matrix routing, alignment, and processing. What are the key advantages for LEO array systems? • Designed for long-throw applications • Exceptional size and weight to SPL ratio • Very powerful, including ample headroom for high frequencies • Extremely linear — very well behaved at all levels • Reproduces source material (mix) very faithfully at all levels with great definition and accuracy • Easy to use in all aspects: design, installation, rigging, and fine-tuning for mixes Can downfill loudspeakers be used with LEO-M arrays? The cabinet width for LEO-M was designed to be the same as MICA so that MICA could be used for downfill in LEO-M systems. What other Meyer Sound loudspeakers integrate well with LEO array systems? The 700-HP, JM-1P, M3D, M3D-Sub, MILO, and UPA-1P/2P can be added to complement LEO array systems. How do delay tower requirements differ for LEO-M systems? Because of LEO-M’s exceptional long-throw capabilities, distances between stage and delay towers can be increased. In some instances, the first delay tower ring may be eliminated entirely, which can reduce system costs and setup times substantially. What’s new about the 1100-LFC low frequency control element? The 1100-LFC includes a new cabinet design, new drivers, and a new amplifier, all of which should be experienced first-hand, so you can hear the difference. What is Callisto? Callisto is a version of Galileo with new filters optimized for aligning line array components, particularly those for LEO-M arrays. Callisto’s U-shaping filter, based on Meyer Sound’s patented TruShaping® EQ, offers equalization curves that were extremely difficult (if not impossible) to previously achieve. Does Callisto include LEO-M presets? No. LEO-M loudspeakers should perform exceptionally with Callisto out-of-the-box. For LEO array systems with 1100-LFC loudspeakers, the subsystems should be appropriately timed. Callisto makes fine-tuning to taste or predetermined frequency responses easy, and also allows for each array element to be processed individually to achieve the desired level of calibration. Meyer Sound is working with users in the field to further refine the unit’s presets, but thus far the system has performed extremely well without pre EQ. Is LEO-M supported in MAPP Online Pro? Yes, LEO-M is supported in a special release of MAPP Online Pro that is available to LEO collaborators. MAPP Online Pro is highly recommended for designing LEO systems. Is the 1100-LFC supported in MAPP Online Pro? Yes, the 1100-LFC is supported in the current version of MAPP Online Pro available at www.meyersound.com/products/mapponline/pro. However, customers must contact Meyer Sound Technical Support for access to the 1100-LFC in this version of MAPP Online Pro. The 1100-LFC is also supported in the special release of MAPP Online Pro for LEO-M (available to Meyer Sound collaborators). Which drivers are included with LEO-M? LEO-M is a 2-way system with two 15-inch low-frequency cone drivers and two 4-inch compression drivers. The new, proprietary drivers were designed for maximum output with maximum reliability. The low-frequency drivers include heat sinks to ensure they run cool. What advantages does the new LEO-M amplifier offer? The LEO-M amplifier yields approximately twice the power of Meyer Sound loudspeakers with HP amplifiers. The LEO-M amplifier also has improved heat dissipation, allowing it to run cooler than HP loudspeakers. What type of connectors does LEO-M have? LEO-M includes a 5-pin XLR female input connector for receiving balanced analog audio and RMS on a single composite cable. A 5-pin XLR male loop output connector is also included for daisy-chaining signals. A powerCON 32 connector is included for AC power input. Why do LEO-M and the 1100-LFC only work at 220 V AC? Because of their expanded power capabilities, these loudspeakers were engineered to operate at 220 VAC (165– 264 VAC) to reduce current draw. Make sure to use AC power cables with sufficient gauge to operate with stable voltages during peaks. What is LEO-M’s horizontal coverage and is it well behaved? The horizontal coverage for LEO-M is similar to that of the M3D and is slightly narrower than MILO, but it is extremely well behaved as indicated in the following plots from MAPP Online Pro. Please note that all systems should be designed using MAPP Online Pro. How many LEO-M cabinets can be flown with the MTG-LEO-M top grid? The MTG-LEO-M top grid can fly 18 cabinets at a 7:1 safety factor, or 25 cabinets at a 5:1 safety factor. What splay angles are available with LEO-M? Available splay angles are 0.5, 1.0,1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 degrees. Can splay angles be set for LEO-M loudspeakers when they are resting in stacks? How does it work? Yes. Splay angles can be set while units are stacked on the floor or in caster frames. This reduces rigging time dramatically since it is no long necessary to adjust motors when setting splay angles. The rear GuideAlinks attach at a fixed 0-degree splay angle. The front GuideALinks determine the loudspeaker’s splay angle and are pinned with two quick-release pins: (1) the first quick-release pin is inserted in one of the yellow ANGLE position (both sides) to set the splay angle; after the stack is lifted with the motors, the loudspeaker rotates on the axis of the rear GuideALinks and the front GuideALinks slide into position because of the weight and gravity of the loudspeakers, at which point, (2) the second quick-release pin is inserted in the corresponding blue LOCKING position (both sides) to lock the splay angle. How do the new GuideALinks facilitate breaking down LEO-M arrays? When the quick-release pins are removed from the blue LOCKING position, the loudspeaker splay angles return to 0 degrees as the array lands in the caster frame, at which point the removed quick-release pins can be inserted in the HOME position, to lock the splay angles at 0 degrees for safe transport. Why aren’t wider splay angles available? LEO-M arrays were designed for large-scale, long-throw applications. The loudspeaker’s driver configuration yields a tight vertical pattern that is essential to its sonic performance. After extensive tests in Meyer Sound’s anechoic chamber, it was determined that a 5-degree splay angle is the maximum angle that preserves the loudspeaker’s exemplary vertical coverage. Can lasers be attached to the MTG-LEO-M top grid? Yes, the grid accommodates brackets and adapters, at several positions, for lasers and inclinometers. What additional rigging options are available for LEO-M array systems? In addition to the MTG-LEO-M top grid, the following options are available: • MTF-LEO/MICA transition bars • PBF-LEO-M pull-back frame • RPP-LEO-M rear pull-up plate • MVP-LEO-M motor V plate assembly For more information, see "Additional Rigging Options for LEO-M" images. How many LEO-Ms can be transported with the MCF-LEO-M caster frame? The MCF-LEO-M caster frame can transport up to four LEO-Ms. Protective covers are optionally available for stacks of 2, 3, or 4 cabinets. Can the MTG-LEO-M top grid travel on top of stacks? Yes. In addition, optional, protective covers are available to accommodate LEO-M stacks with an MTGLEO-M on top. If there are concerns about the grid bumping into other stacks, Meyer Sound offers an optional LEO-M wheel frame extension kit to raise the stack by 1 inch.
