Permission to View PG Movies - St. Anastasia Catholic School

Permission to View PG Movies
September 15, 2014
Dear Parents,
Throughout the course of the school year, students will watch G and PG movies in class to enhance the
curriculum. Sometimes we watch clips from a movie and sometimes we view a whole movie. Whole movies
are only shown a few times a year and brief video clips (2-5 minutes) are shown regularly to engage
students during a lesson.
Here are some examples:
After we read a novel or short story, we watch the movie adaptation to compare and
contrast the two.
o Examples: Holes, Tuck Everlasting, and A Christmas Carol
We watch movie clips to better demonstrate concepts from a lesson.
o Examples: Aladdin to practice plot, Finding Nemo to demonstrate theme, and Mary
Poppins to show mood vs. tone
A classic Disney movie is shown and then students use literary terms learned in class to
analyze the movie.
o Examples: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Hercules
Around the holidays, we may enjoy a classic holiday movie … but we always add an
educational component!
o Examples: Hocus Pocus at Halloween and A Charlie Brown Christmas at Christmas
St. Anastasia’s school policy states that permission must be given for a student to watch PG movies. In
past years, I have sent home a movie permission slip for each PG movie; however, I am simplifying the
process this year. Please sign this form to give your child permission to watch PG movies throughout the
course of the year. An email will be sent out informing you of the movie before it is shown to the class. I
will include a link to a summary and preview.
Please sign below, and have your son/daughter bring this form to school. As always, please email me with
any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Oustad
