Collection LBCOM: Communication studies
The collection
The Faculty of Arts Library aims at collecting materials relevant to the teaching
and research on Communication and Information studies. These studies focus on
communication and communication utterances in their cultural meaning: they
concern both written and spoken texts as well as film, television and digital
media. Of course the Library collects not just printed publications: particularly in
this field of studies all kinds of electronic data carriers, internet resources, etc.
play an important role, therefore these are also made available by the Library.
This description of the collection deals only with the printed materials; for other
types of data carriers you are referred to the Library pages Full-text digital
information, the Catalogue of Music and Audiovisual materials and Internet
resources.
The books and journals in this field of studies that are present in the Library can
be divided into the following fields of interest:
1. Literature on linguistic aspects can be found in the collection LBATW (General
Linguistics). Materials in the fields of cognitive and functional grammar (sections
17.50 - 17.56), sociolinguistics (17.20 - 17.24), pragmatics (17.61) and text
linguistics / textual analysis (section 17.63).
2. Literature on language mastery. To be found in the collection LBNED (Dutch
language and literature), section 18.10 42.
3. Literature on film, television and the new media. To be found in the Theatre,
Film and Television studies collection, sections 24.30 - 24.39.
4. Literature in the field of communication studies can be found in the collection
LBCOM (Communication studies), next to the collection LBTHE (Theatre, Film and
Television Studies).
