How Sterling saved time and money - not only

Sterling Taxation Services is a rapidly expanding business, currently growing at a rate of 30%
per annum. The company’s six employees service 1200 clients in areas such as tax, accounting,
mortgage broking and financial planning. It also manages 25 super funds. Located in Perth’s
CBD, Sterling Taxation Services was founded in 2004 and aims to provide a personalised service
for its clients, with a strong focus on providing a high standard of reporting.
the problem
Prior to becoming a superMate subscriber, Sterling was using generic accounting software to
process superannuation. This was problematic in that it was very time-consuming and prone
to error. In the lead up to the end of the financial year, the company required a new approach
that would provide superior reporting including instant market valuations. Sterling also faced
the problem that although their existing systems were inefficient, a lot of additional time
would be wasted in becoming familiar with any new software.

Once Sterling started using superMate, the company dramatically increased its
productivity during busy periods.
During an initial free trial of the software, Director of Sterling Colin Simcock was
very impressed by several superMate functions. “The way in which the software
improved client reporting and pension processing were key reasons why we
made the switch to superMate. This has been a real benefit for all of Sterling’s
clients,” Colin said.
Colin added “Our previous software was poor in eliminating errors. superMate,

is simply much easier to use. With five staff, I found it very easy to make the switch
due to the inbuilt function of workflow templates which provide step by step
instructions for new users,” said Colin. “Thus there was minimal downtime for us,
and no disruption from our clients’ perspective.”
superMate workflows enable a user to easily move backwards and forwards
before completing an entry, streamlining business processes and helping to
eliminate errors.
One other feature which proved to be particularly useful was the market
valuation tool. Colin said that the time saving capabilities of this tool have
enabled him to calculate the current market value of client shares immediately,
whereas in the past he had been forced to work these out manually.
“This used to be extremely time consuming when you’re dealing with thirty or
more shares per client,” Colin said.

detailed level of reporting, delivered more quickly and with little chance of error.
During very busy periods in the year, superMate has allowed Sterling to rise to the

“The fact that I was able to trial the software meant that I could fully familiarise
myself with it before making the commitment to subscribe, which was really
important when you are accustomed to using different software. We also found

its use,” Colin added.
