A CELEBRATION OF WELLNESS!
Good health is much more than the
absence of injury and disease. Wellness
is all about making ourselves better by
not waiting until we have a problem that
needs to be addressed. As we get older
there are many things that we do not
control about our health --- but there is a
great deal that we do control --- perhaps
more than you might have thought!
Wellness is more than physical fitness.
While that is of course important – there
is much more that each of us can and
should do to ensure our own ‘Wellness’.
Years ago I taught a college course called
‘The Psycho-Social Aspects of Aging’.
We are more than just physical and
intellectual beings --- we have spiritual and emotional sides that all interact
together. This past week Jim interviewed two Wellness practioners on his weekly
radio show --- Kelly Long on the left and Catherine Turgeon on the right. Catherine
did a program for us this past week as well.
For me Wellness is about taking
ownership of our own lives and while how each of us chooses to pursue that goal
might vary --- I would encourage each of you to consider how best to get the
assistance you need to pursue your own Wellness goals.

CAN YOU FIND IT!
This week we had Two Winners! Jean S. and John E.
both correctly identified this as being on the Elevator
Door Frame at the lower First Floor Level. For those
who are interested in knowing – they signify the floor
to which the elevator will automatically return in the
event that the fire alarm is going off.
Let’s see who
can find this
next one! I
think that it
is
easy
enough that
no hints are
necessary but I will offer one anyway: The
subject of the photo to the right was not
here upon Opening but joined us as some
point afterwards.
Part of what I enjoy about taking these
photos is the opportunity it gives me to look
closely and see the beauty of design that all
around us but that oftentimes goes
unnoticed.
I think the same thing about people as well.
Please put your answers in the Suggestion
Box!

JOKE OF THE
WEEK………
A man goes on a 2-month business trip
to Europe and leaves his cat with his
brother. Three days before his return
he calls his brother.
Brother 1: So how is my cat doing?
Brother 2: He's Dead
Brother 1: He's Dead! What do you
mean He's Dead! I loved that cat.
Couldn't you think of a nicer way to
tell me! I'm leaving in 3 days. You
could of broke me to the news easier. You could of told me today that she
got out of the house or something. Then when I called before I left you
could of told me, Well, we found her but she is up on the roof and we're
having trouble getting her down. Then when I call you from the airport
you could of told me, The Fire Department was there and scared her off
the roof and the cat died when it hit the ground.
Brother 2: I'm sorry...you're right...that was insensitive I won't let it
happen again.
Brother 1: Alright, alright, forget about it. Anyway, how is Mom doing?
Brother 2: She's up on the roof and we're having trouble getting her
down.

WORD OF THE WEEK…………
Hoopla
-
\HOO-plah\
noun
excited commotion : to-do
exaggerated or sensational promotion or publicity
EXAMPLES
In my opinion, the movie didn't live up to the hoopla surrounding it.
"There was no formal introduction, no hoopla as the leading scorer in Maryland
men's basketball history took a seat behind the bench for the first time in his new
role." — From an article by Don Markus in The Baltimore Sun, November 29, 2013
DID YOU KNOW?
In French, the interjection "houp-là" is used roughly the same way as English's
"upsy-daisy" or "whoops-a-daisy," as
one might say when picking up a
child. (This usage can be found in
English, too, in such works as Booth
Tarkington's The Magnificent
Ambersons and James Joyce’s
Ulysses.) In the early 20th century,
the word, playing on the syllable
"hoop," gave its name to a ring-toss
game played at carnivals. But before
that, "hoopla" was used in American
English to refer to a kind of bustling
commotion, and later, as a term for
sensationalist hype.

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES PRESENTS:
“LIFE AS A HOUSE”
7:00 in the Community Room
Faced with a sobering diagnosis of
terminal cancer, George (Kevin
Kline) decides to construct a
beautiful new house on his land
overlooking the Pacific Ocean,
while at the same time trying to
connect with his estranged son
(Hayden Christensen). Kristin
Scott
Thomas
and
Mary
Steenburgen co-star in this
moving dramedy that speaks
eloquent volumes about the
fragility -- and resilience -- of the
human condition.
A Review……………………..
I love movies with a message and
this movie had a great one!!!! I
loved the progression of the
characters and how they all have
problems but getting involved
with the house project and
George they just all seem to find a way to make things better for themselves and
those around them. They are helping each other in ways that until the end they
don't even realize. The ending was a wonderful surprise that I didn't see coming but
when it happens you say "Of course that's why they did it". The cast was great and
they played off each other so perfectly that it seems that your watching something
real and not an entertaining movie.

CLOSING NOTES…………….
Greetings All -----------I’m willing to bet that many of you watched the Patriot’s Game this afternoon and
while it was a bit disappointing to see them lose – it is certainly to their credit that
they once again made it to the Playoffs.
Whether you have passion for sports, music or the arts ---- the most important thing
for all of us is to find something beyond ourselves to become passionate about and
to nurture that passion, exercise that passion and to share that passion with others.
And never think that you are too old to either rediscover old or former passions or
to discover new ones. While learning to ski presents many challenges – learning to
be a bird watcher could be just the thing. I know that I am finding renewed
enjoyment from reading – and old passion that had been displaced by things that
seemed more important at the time.
The simplest passion and one of the most rewarding passions to have is that of
service to others. That is why Volunteers are typically some of the happiest people
you bump into in the course of the day. They are choosing to do something to help
others --- not because they have to --- but because they want to. Above you will
see a request for Volunteer Receptionists at our Front Desk. There are any number
of ways --- here --- and elsewhere where you can share your time, your interest and
your talents. It could make a real difference for the better!
Have a Great Week ---------
----- Howie
