High resolution audio is slowly, but certainly, making its way, not only to the
audiophile world, but also to the broader audience. With the storage media
becoming cheaper, larger in capacity and smaller in size, the digital music is more
accessible to the listener than ever before in the history. I can see on Hi-Fi shows
so many companies converging into digital storage and streaming devices.
I always liked a CD (or at this matter, a vinyl) as a media, since this is a work of art
that doesn’t contain only music, but also the booklet, which is an accompanying
visual support of design, photography and illustration. The trend goes towards
downloadable music where the visual part is torn out for the exception of the
album cover in metadata. Music wise it makes sense, especially for the ones who
listen to music on the go or have large collections (several hundreds of albums or
more).
Why 24-bit?
The bit depth is a unit that defines how finely the amplitude is chopped into
digital data. A CD uses 16-bit resolution which makes the amplitude divided into
65,000 parts. If we add 8 more bits, that is 24, we have the resolution increased
to 16,800,00 parts - 256 times finer than the one of a CD. And this is when we
talk about high resolution audio ­­­­­– a resolution that is superior to the one of our,
human, ear.
The compilation is stored on a USB flash drive for you to upload on your favourite
listening device, whether this is a computer, a media station or a portable player.
Music, featured on this compilation, has been meticulously selected among 700
songs, from 165 musicians that we have reviewed during the call for submissions.
11 artists were selected and three of them were invited, making a set of 14 great
songs for playing time of almost an hour. The selection was based not only on the
artistic quality, but also on the quality of the recording and originality of the music.
All the musicians on this compilation are extraordinary and they deserve a
maximum exposure. We try our best, in our modest way, to add a stone to the
castle they’re building.

Cindertalk is the stage and studio monicker for multi-instrumentalist singersongwriter Jonny Rodgers, and the ever-changing group of musicians who join
him for performances and recordings.
In addition to touring and recording his songs based around tuned wine glasses,
guitar, and electronics, Jonny is also a composer and producer, writing chamber,
orchestral and choral music for concert and film.
His formative musical years were spent writing, touring and recording with
his brother Steve Rodgers in the indie band Mighty Purple. The band released
seven albums and toured the US multiple times.
Jonny collaborates with many talented musicians from the worlds of classical
and indie music. He has played for the bands Son Lux, NYC’s classical-crossover
band Awry (now My Brightest Diamond), Ten Shekel Shirt, Faux Fix, Todd
Reynolds, Sxip Shirey, Arturo En El Barco, Angelica Negron and many others.
His latest album, Everything All At Once prominently features tuned wine glasses,
guitars and electronics with loops used in unexpected and captivating ways. The
album was released on Oct 8, 2013 on Epitonic. A collection of all new material
is in the works for 2014.
Jonny currently splits his time between Brooklyn, New Haven, CT and a farm in
Oregon.

Sweet Soubrette’s edgy love songs explore troubled romance, works of
literature, and the mysteries of existence. Based in New York City, the ukulelepowered indie rock band is known for its poetic lyrics, lush harmonies, and a
dark sensibility. It features the vocals and ukulele of Ellia Bisker, a three-time
ASCAP Plus Award winner for her songwriting, and a talented backing band of
jazz and classically trained musicians.
Sweet Soubrette plays frequently in NYC and tours in the US, performing as
a solo singer/songwriter act, an acoustic trio, or an 8-piece big band with bass,
drums, and a horn section. The band has also performed in international festivals

McNary is the Artist name for Nashville, Tennessee based Songwriter Tim
McNary, who found his passion for writing music and performing while spending
two years volunteering and backpacking in South America after college. His folk
leaning sound has been described as raw and emotive. Since 2009, McNary
has performed hundreds of shows around the United States and shared the
stage with The Civil Wars and Griffin House, among many others. He has been

Morning Light

Sometimes in life you stumble upon a person that seems so far out of place that
you can’t believe what your eyes are seeing. Andrew Judah used to be one such
human-shaped phantom, painting houses for a living outside Vancouver in the
town of Kelowna, British Columbia. While his hands were on autopilot, his mind
raced, organizing words and rhythms into songs.
In 2011 Judah took his first step towards a life less ordinary releasing his first fulllength album of baroque indie pop songs The Preacher’s Basement and Judah’s
musical voice began to take shape. Later that year he recorded his most
progressive work yet, the short but poignantly picturesque Albino Black Bear.
Tackling every instrument
The next year Judah made further headway in his career, remixing a song
for Son Lux’s We Are Rising remix album. He also began to write music for
television ads. His songs appeared in over 15 major television ad campaigns
during 2013, including the holy grail of advertising: a Super Bowl spot. Another
highlight of 2013 includes a prestigious residency at Butter Music in NYC, a spot
previously filled by the likes of Son Lux and Kishi Bashi.
The consummate perfectionist, Andrew Judah spends nearly every waking
moment of every day perfecting his craft; writing, recording and performing
music. Like any well-rounded person, music isn’t the only driving force in his life.
Judah is also a devoted husband and father who relishes movie nights and bike
rides with his wife and three young children. He’s currently working on his new
full-length album Monster while trying to grow a beard that continues to remain
elusive.

Where Do We Go

Damen Samuel is a singer/songwriter and a travelling troubadour who is
spreading his mellow, powerful tunes with a guitar and a velvety voice. His music
style can best be described as a unique blend of soul, folk, rock and jazz
influences and he often draws comparisons to artists such as Nick Drake, Antony
and the Johnsons and Ben Harper.
Damen recorded his EP Odyssey at The Buddy Project Studio (Sufjan
Stevens – Illinois) in NYC with producer Kieran Kelly (Angus & Julia Stone’s –
Down the way). Also involved in the making of Odyssey was Matt Johnson (Jeff
Buckley’s band) on drums and electric guitar.
Damen has taken full advantage of living in a world with fewer borders than the
one he was born into – he was raised in former East Germany, at the height of the
cold war by his German mother. His father was a student from Nigeria. Damen
moved to NYC in his early 20s to pursue his creative vision and concentrate on
his song writing. With his biracial background he felt right at home in the midst
of the rich Afro/American history of New York City and he quickly became part
of the local music scene of Brooklyn and the Lower Eastside. Some of the songs
he wrote during that period can be found on his EP Storyteller, which he
recorded in 2005 with Grammy winning classical/jazz producer Silas Brown.
Damen’s first full-length album A Gypsy’s Lullaby was recorded in Melbourne
(Australia) and released in 2009. In 2009–2010 Damen also went on an extensive
tour performing live shows and festivals across Australia, the US and Europe.
Nowadays Damen regularly travels between Melbourne, the US and Europe
working on various projects and introducing his music to a broad international
audience.

With a rare and complex timbre, that ranges from soprano to tenor, and the
dynamic songwriting ability similar to many great artist of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s,
music artist, singer and songwriter Timothy Israel was born Timothy Bolden in
1975 to Illinois native parents in the small town of Lawton, Oklahoma, historic
US state of native America. Growing up poor and with his family re-locating
to the south, like most children, his childhood was filled with imagination
and creative expression. In transitioning from the challenges of childhood, he
continued his creative outlook upon life, developing a great love for writing,
poetry, music, and God. Timothy Israel formed his first band in 2007, later
releasing his debut album Life Visions in 2010. Though the band lasted a year
(2007­­­­­–2008), Timothy Israel since has continued to ameliorate himself as a
singer/songwriter/composer/musician. Today he is a resilient, ever evolving solo
artist/performer, steady on the rise, who’s music captures the very essence of
life’s power, beauty, simplicity and freedom of all our experiences, making him
the perfect international spokesman for us all.

Tobias the Owl is based on the songwriting of Toronto native turned Seattle resident,
Elijah Dhawan. Spanning indie, folk, and acoustic genres the songs are built on using
music to heal and sublimate the tribulations of life into higher spiritual awareness.
Joining Elijah is guitarist Spooner Mason, and percussionist/instrumentalist Scott Seiver.
Their name hales from a story about a one-eyed owl who visits a lonely musician
at his home. Hungry and unable to hunt, the owl begins to visit regularly for meals
and keeps the musician company while he plays. Needing to call the owl something
and wanting it to be a name worthy of such a majestic creature, the musician settles
on Tobias, after a line in a poem by Pavel Solivar: “Oh, Tobias, you see through the
blindness, and in the cold of the darkness every eye that shines is a universe unto
itself”.
After releasing their first EP, Painting Zeroes by Your Name, Tobias the Owl gained
international prominence and critical acclaim for several of the songs, including the
track Low Life, which has been performed by the likes of Deer Tick and Jonah Tolchin.
Since the start of the band, Tobias the Owl has been named “Best Songwriter” in
the 2014 Seattle Sound Music Awards, and also “Best Singer/Songwriter” in the
2014 Toronto Independent Music Awards. Their newest album is being produced by
Scott Seiver and veteran producer, Marvin Etzioni (Counting Crows, Toad the Wet
Sprocket, Lisa Loeb).

Bailey Coats is a 17 year old singer-songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama that has
been singing for as long as she can remember. Her voice is soft and tender, but

American Girl, released on September 15th of this year, she has done just that. Her

London-based Koukie is a recording solo artist with a band. The singer composer and
poet is delighted to announce the release of her debut solo album, Songs From An
Empty Stage. Fusing rock opera with gypsy, punk and cabaret into a fireball of sound,
hers is music for a new generation. Koukie dazzles audiences everywhere she goes
with style and charisma. “If Queen and Shirley Bassey were to have a child, Koukie
would be the one blasting off your ears,” says Porchlight Studios producer Niall
Woods.
Koukie graduated from London College of Music in 2011, with a Bmus Popular Music
Performance. That year, she was chosen by the heads of London College of Music to
be the pop icon in the LCM Summer Showcase, beating off competition from over
3000 other students across the capital, to perform her signature Koukie’s Song.
Koukie has since appeared live at London venues, including a sellout headline show
at The Garage in Islington. She’s been a special guest at an Ealing Youth Orchestra
concert, and recently held a performance with LCM Sinfonia at St Barnabas Church,
presenting songs from the album with a 100 piece orchestra and a rock band.
Koukie has spent the last two years writing, arranging and recording her new album.
The album was produced by Niall Woods of Porchlight Studios in Dublin and
London. It features contributions from many top musicians, including One Direction’s
bass player Sandy Beales.
Martin Riley, arranger of the Performance of The Music of Deep Purple by the Moscow
Symphony Orchestra, has arranged the orchestral versions of songs included on the
album.

Australian songstress Fleur Wiber’s dark and dreamy music will take you to another
world. Having grown up in the Australian outback, Fleur has been living somewhat
nomadically between Sydney, California, London and currently Melbourne. Fleur
draws influence from new folk, alt. country, pop and her teen years listening
to psychedelic rock. Sounding somewhat like a mixture of Mazzy Star, Juliette
Commagere and Dead Man’s Bones, Fleur mixes 60s American folk with dark
enchanting lyrics to create her distinctive sound.
Over the past two years, Fleur has successfully released her debut EP Orderves which
has been aired on many radio stations including Cambridge 105 (UK), Cape May
FM (USA), FBI (Australia) and 2SER. Fleur has received press in Drunken Werewolf
magazine, Unraveled, Revolt and the Cape May Star. Recently Fleur has released two
singles For I once was a Child and Edge of the Earth.
In 2013, Fleur Wiber launched her debut EP at the renowned Vanguard in Sydney.
She then toured overseas performing at Singer songwriter Cape may in New Jersey,
USA, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, UK, and other notable venues including The Old
Queens Head in London. Fleur has also performed at the Gulgong Folk Festival, This
is Not Art Festival and The Sydney Fringe Festival.
Fleur Wiber has been selected for Push Songs, a mentoring program for emerging
Victorian Songwriters funded by the Victorian Government and APRA. Her music
has been used on TV shows, films and compilations including My Little Tornado by
Nicola Walkerden (Sydney), Independent No. 1s (India) and Pulp Productions’ film
Victims of Fun (USA). Her music is currently being used for a film by Unraveled (Los
Angeles).

Bogan Via is Bret William Bender and Madeline Miller. Wait Up is the band’s debut
extended play album and it develops their distinctive electronic-folk sound.
Wait Up was then recorded in late 2012 over a period of several weeks at Flying
Blanket Recording in Mesa, AZ and mixed at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO.
The band co-produced the record with Bob Hoag (The Format).
Bogan Via has made a quite a mark on the scene, quickly playing packed shows
including a southwest jaunt with Geographer. Bogan Via’s ability to win over fans
with their unique sound has already earned them opening spots for the likes of Todd
Terje, Darwin Deez, Twin Shadow, Austra, Yacht, and many more, as well as remixes
by Miniature Tigers, Geographer and others.
For now, Bogan Via’s graceful and danceable indie rock is still under the radar, but
they are quickly rising to the surface, bringing their melodies and pulsating beats with
them. Over the past year, Bogan Vias’ music has been featured on every blog from
Consequence of Sound to My Old Kentucky

Hailing from Newington, Connecticut, 1974 is a five-piece progressive rock
band that conjures up the massive and powerful emanations of a bygone era.
Since 2007, the band has been awing audiences with powerful guitar driven riffs,
rich vocal harmonies, catchy melodies, and high-energy stage shows.
With a flair for the dramatic, guitarists Mike Forgette and Adam Clymer
harmonize guitar leads and throw solos back and forth at each other from
across the stage. Bassist Gary Dionne’s playing has been described as an
eccentric, bombastic, and virtuosic manifestation. Drummer Tim Moore’s
soulful vocal style adds an empathetic layer to the music while his progressiveinfluenced drumming drives the band into powerful and uncharted territories.
With a background in musical theater, the beautiful and talented Angela
Rhea Piccoli captivates audiences with her powerful voice and keyboards and
ensnares them with her unique and energetic dancing.
Released in February of 2011, 1974 & The Battle for the Lazer Fortress garnered
mass critical praise from fans and the media. Though the band took its time
crafting complex time signatures and punchy guitar riffs, the music is sweetened
by layers of catchy melodies that evoke several modern indie rock influences.
The interwoven rock and pop facets created a recipe which propelled 1974 &
The Battle for the Lazer Fortress into CT.com’s list of 2011’s Top 15 albums.
2013 saw the band performing at larger venues and to broader audiences. 1974
made their first appearance at CT’s famed Infinity Hall, performed at the annual
Daffodil Festival, and earned a spot on the annual Vision & Grit Festival. Tireless
in their pursuit of realizing their collective visions, the band also recorded and
released their sophomore full-length album entitled 1974 & The Death of the
Herald. Always well-received locally, 1974 would start to see immense praise on
an international level, receiving positive reviews from as far and wide as Sweden,
Brazil, Japan, and England, to name a few.
1974 remains a band on an upward trajectory. With new material in the works
and a slate of impressive live performances planned for the near future, 1974 is

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Lindsay Kupser is a 22 year old vocalist, performer,
and composer based in Boston. Though she sang seriously all of her life, in her early
teens Lindsay picked up the guitar and started to write songs. In high school Lindsay
was introduced to jazz by her teacher and mentor, Lorna MacLachlan, and thus
began her love affair with the genre. At 17 she applied and auditioned for Berklee
College of Music and was accepted with a scholarship.
In her first few years at Berklee Lindsay was primarily focused on jazz, exploring
contemporary and free jazz, and writing lyrics to instrumental music. In her last year
at Berklee Lindsay began listening to much more pop and folk music and strived
to incorporate that love of simplicity into her music. Lindsay has had the honor of
studying with many world class musicians and teachers and has performed in many
unique and exciting concerts. Lindsay recorded her first EP, The Boston EP, in February
of 2014.

Waterslide is singer-songwriter and producer Mark Doyon. From his home base
in northern Virginia, Doyon previously released albums as Arms of Kismet and
Wampeters, and published the short-story collection Bonneville Stories.
